I love to watch movies - all kinds. Sci-fi, fantasy, action, adventure, foreign films (especially Irish-made and Japanese-made), comedies, documentaries...I've probably watched at least a couple thousand movies over the years, in the theater - who knows how many rentals? Movies are great. Movie theater ticket prices? Gay. Cost of snack food at theaters? More gay.
Read a book, you morons!
Ok, I can't front, I watch tv too, just not as much as you do, haha.
Discovery Channel, Comedy Central, Food Network (with my girl), History Channel, occasionally I'll watch MTV to get my booby fix in and VH1 does a good job with their biographies and "Best Week Ever" type shows. Other than that, I try to avoid the tv.
Piers Anthony - My favorite author of all time. He is Science Fiction/Fantasy at its best. My grandmother Wini taught him English/Writing in a one room schoolhouse. Dope, huh?
Shel Silverstein - If you've read "Where the sidewalk ends." then you feel me on this one.
Anne McCaffrey - Another wonderfully dope Sci-Fi/Fantasy writer. She gets two supa checks for the Dragonriders of Pern series.
Dr. Suess - Pure genius.
Isaac Asimov, Kurt Vonnegut, Aldous Huxley, Ursula K. Leguin, Robert Aspirin, Douglas Adams...the list of amazing authors goes on for ever.
I'm also making an attempt at writing a novel. Wish me luck!
People list their favorite movie stars, singers, sports stars, etc in this box - but those people aren't heroes - just people who get paid lots of money. Take all those fuckers out of your hero box. Those are IDOLS and an idol is not the same as a HERO (although they can be one and the same, but that doesn't happen often).
Some real hero types:
Mohatma Mohandas Gandhi - changed the face of the entire world during his life.
Martin Luther King, Jr. - we all owe so much to this man and the leadership he gave to one of the most important movements in history.
Teachers/Volunteers - underpaid, overworked and underappreciated!
Emergency Services (Fire, EMT, Search & Rescue, etc) - they save our lives every single day, and how often do they get listed in the "hero" box?
Nice people - who should be called "hero" more than someone who treats others with respect and kindness? People who try to be honorable and do the right thing and make others happy. Nice people are a dying breed.
Single moms that handle their business - can you get more impressive than a single mother who manages to not only survive, but succeed? And you know who else is a hero? Real fathers. Men who stand by their family and do right by their women. Real men stand the fuck up!
"The People" - aka Native Americans, who struggle to keep their race and culture alive. They've had so much taken from them and yet they still remain an honorable, friendly people.
Note about "Revolutionaries": Don't think because someone calls themselves a revolutionary that that makes them a hero. Those who fight for change with the word and the strength of their people are some awesome motherfuckers, but "revolutionaries" who kill or advocate the killing of children and innocents over a belief are monsters. If you respect someone who encourages suicide bombers and the killing of innocent people, then YOU are a monster. Good is way doper than evil, bitches.
Here is how NOT to be a hero:
-Laugh at other people's misfortune. Seein someone get their ass kicked horribly in a video is NOT funny.
-Clown the kid in your class who isn't as smart as you. Matter of fact, if you make fun of anyone who is less fortunate, less intelligent or less attractive than you, you are an UGLY person.
-Look the other way when five doods jump one dood instead of trying to stop them. NEVER STAND BY OR LOOK THE OTHER WAY! Ok, so if you aren't a badass, then call the police! At least yell for help. And by the way, this goes out to all the tough guys who gang up on people - if you need more than yourself to beat someone's ass then you are a BITCH.
-Disrespect women. No, women and men are NOT equal, either physically or mentally. We are designed different and that's just how it is - but NEITHER a man nor a woman is "better" than the other simply because he is a man or a woman. Judge everyone based on who they are, not WHAT they are. And if you put your hands on a woman and it's not in self-defense? Then you are less than a BITCH.
The world needs more heroes.
