I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Peace. My name is Bahati Amal and I am a published journalist who has been writing professionally since 1997. I’ve served as an Editor for the national hip hop newspaper Rap Sheet and have freelanced for other media outlets like The Source, XXL and Launch-Yahoo! Media. I have also tackled community issues in local newspapers in both Los Angeles and Philadelphia. In the past few years I’ve begun to move away from the standard hip hop writing because pleasing advertisers, artists and record labels became more important than quality and balanced journalism. Also, as I began to gain more consciousness and awareness of the issues impacting Black people globally, I felt this needed to take center stage. So, my focus still includes hip hop, which is a Black cultural art form, but has expanded to include every area of human activity- education, religion, sex, war, politics, economics, entertainment, labor and law.Aside from the immediate goal of eliminating white supremacy/racism and replacing it with a system of justice I always strive for the best of all humanity. Many of my positions are race based because we live in a racialized society where that matters and neglecting this fact can lead to confusion and genocide. Yet, ultimately my goal is to produce justice and peace for all of humanity. So, with my writing and other endeavors I intend to awaken and enlighten humanity in general and Black people globally in particular, to begin to transform the planet and eventually make a better world for all of us.I am a passionate optimist and I know we will win. The work just needs to be done and I’m here to connect with others who are ready to get to work. Won’t you join me?Who’s that in the picture?I’ve chosen to use the picture of a great ancestor named Ida B. Wells. She was a well- respected journalist and newspaper publisher in the early 20th Century who passionately wrote about issues impacting Black people. In particular, she was one of the few who dealt the lynching of Black men and women. She was uncompromising in her position and in her writings and was even criticized by other Blacks for her outspoken stance. She set a beautiful example for other journalists as well as for Black women in particular to follow. That’s why I pay homage to her by using her picture.
