About Me

MR. DEVINE
Styles P. Jadakiss. DMX. J Hood. What do some of hip hops hardest rappers look for when they need a hardcore beat that can handle their gritty tales of street life? A little Devine intervention.
Meet producer Mr. Devine a Queens, New York native, who has blessed some of raps realest with a sound they can ride out to. You may not know his name, but you definitely know his beats, and for this former DJ, thats what its all about. If my name doesnt ring bells everywhere, thats all right, says Devine. As long as people know me for quality music, then Im good.
This 29-year-old has been behind the music for two decades. You could say that its in his blood. As a pre-teen, Devines father and uncle were both DJs for house parties, weddings and family gatherings. Devine Tyme (his DJing moniker at the time) would go to events with his uncle, load and unload equipment, and when the opportunity came for nephew to get on the turntables and move the crowd, he jumped at the chance. Eventually he was spinning at parties on his own, buying his own equipment, learning how to blend and making tapes. Devine says the transition from djing to producing was a natural progression, albeit not an easy one.
Devine entered the music biz in 1996 and began paying his dues as an intern for Bad Boy and a member of the labels infamous street team for years, all the while still djing, creating mix tapes, learning the business and mastering his craft as a producer. His big break came when his former manager had an artist signed to Ruff Ryders in 2000, and Devine produced most of the tracks. The camp took notice, and signed him to a deal as an in-house producer in 2001. During his two years with Ruff Ryders, Devine delivered beats for some of the hottest MCs, including The Lox, Drag-on, and for DMXs Grand Champ album.
