YOYOCUTS is a collaboration between 2 collectives: BUTTERCUTS (UK) and RDYO (Slovenia). These 2 crews, from opposite sides of the Europe, met at a festival in Germany in 2003. They stayed in touch, performed a few gigs and decided to make an album... with a little help from the Slovenian Ministry of Culture, City Council of Ljubljana, and by using loads of creativity, resourcefulness, cheap airlines and continental beer...YOYOCUTS was born.
YOYOCUTS is a bit like a good pasta sauce... if you have quality fresh ingredients, it doesn't really matter about the recipe or the order of things... keep tasting and adding stuff until you're happy... bit of this, bit of that... not too much... lovely...Nobody really knew what it was going to sound like... we mostly used instrumentals from both crews' debut albums but completely changed the vocals... the Slovenians made their own versions of the Brits' hits and vice versa... most tracks feature vocalists from both crews (such as "Desperanto", a track where 4 MCs rap in languages they don't even speak)... some songs were written on the spot... until finally we had the most eclectic collection of beats, flows and languages ever heard on a British/Slovenian Hip-Hop album.YOYOCUTS finds its roots in 11 different countries (Belgium, Bosnia, Burundi, Finland, Germany, Irak, Ireland, Philippines, Slovenia, UK, Zimbabwe) and numerous musical genres (Blues, Classical, Drum'n'Bass, Funk, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Reggae). It is without a doubt one of the most multi-cultural records you will ever hear.We hope you'll enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it!
