BC400 HISTORY:
BC400 is a concept group put together by Buttercuts Records. Originally wanting to sign up it's members as individual artists, they were pulled together by the record label under the BC400 moniker, as when appearing at nights to showcase each artist individually, it turned out that the group actually funtioned better performing all together.
So what does BC400 mean? Well, the term '400' is an old slang expression for 'a select group of people within society. 'BC' rather obviously is for Buttercuts. So there it is - BC400.
As the 7 strong crew became more familiar with what each member had to offer, BC400 firing on all cylinders were an act that few could follow. Due to the energy of ther live shows they opted to play to more dance orientated crowds where they were shown huge appreciation.
With the creation of The Antidote a milestone was set as never had a UK act blurred the boundary of so many music genres and fit it on to one album. It is an album of utmost quality, especially for a debut release.
On the heels of The Antidote, Buttercuts teamed up with Tina from Radyoyo - the No.1 Slovenian hip hop record label - to collaborate on a project titled YOYOCUTS - utilising much of the music and artists from The Antidote. Check the YOYOCUTS myspace for more details.
The fact that BC400 group is a concept has allowed it's members the freedom to carry out whatever they wish to persue with no long term commitments of any kind.
Boomah found success with don drum'n'bass legend Shy FX, and also in the d'n'b arena, Code:Breaker linked with Crystal Clear putting out dancefloor smashers on DJ Hype's Ganja Records imprint. UncleP became a father and wanted to hold off on beat making with a sampler and make beats with his kit again, whilst Buttafingaz pushed the decks aside and adopted a the new name of 'Rebel Accountant' in order express himself with words. Xtbl is training in law, Cultcam is training to be a music teacher and Wildeye is running away with the circus.
But with that the future of BC400 is wide open. As a concept group the requirement to be part of it is to have links with Buttercuts - and with the high standard of productions coming through it is only a matter of time until enough cross collaboration occurs warranting a 2nd BC400 album. But one thing is for certain - it will be a quality album far ahead of its time, just as The Antidote was.
SOME QUOTES ABOUT BC400 AND 'THE ANTIDOTE':
like this band a lot. They're not afraid to jump out of the one genre into another, they have their own fresh sound and I can't see any reason why they will not take over the world (very soon!). This is slick! Fucking great stuff - about time some English / French ting went off - I love this. Brilliant. (Capoeira Twins)
These boys have got it all locked down. Should go far. (Daddy G - Massive Attack)
Never a dull moment, I found the album to be very good - very good on the floors too. I want to hear more from this group and would buy the record. (Paul Godfrey 'Morcheeba' )
Sounds goods- Who's Who & Outrageous Lyrical caught me on first listen playing it out. (Rob 'Stereo MC's)
