About Me

ON THE STREETS OR BEHIND THE WALLS AND BARS...I'M GOING TO SHINE...AND WHEN I GET OUT, I'M GOIN' TO SHINE 10X HARDER!!!...Aukwin, a.k.a Auk the Hater, is a veteran composer of the modern urban war-story. With his first solo album, "God Made Dirt and Dirt Don't Hurt", the artist tells the tale of human evolution in a jungle of glitz, glamour and violence. Having mastered his own musical battle cry, Aukwin's vocals curl through a unique and complex psychology. While plagued with temptation and dark realities, he seeks truth and light to find his way, carrying hip-hop into the next realm of understanding."Should Have Been Dead Ten Times Ago", Aukwin reflects on his childhood, growing up in the Western Addition neighborhood of San Francisco. From a city of extreme contrasts of rolling landscapes and coarse city streets, he learned most lessons the hard way. Learn he did. This San Francisco born Pacific Islander experienced the mean street elements here on the mainland. However, he longed for more, to conceive thought beyond poverty and drug torn worlds. In his music he speaks on what he knows and contemplates that which he cannot understand. Over beats fit to drive the hearts of soldiers, Aukwin awakens the next of kin to do the same: "seek strength of mind and stay true to the soul for seductive forces can be so tempting."Aukwin met hip-hop in its infancy. By the time Sugar Hill Gang released their first album, he was already hooked. At twelve years old it took him a week to write his first painstakingly perfect 16-bar verse, but today Aukwin can put one down in an hour without missing a beat. For sixteen years the artist has dropped verses from the lips and finger tips with pioneering style, stirring emotions and moving generations of S.F. schoolyard players to an original beat.Aukwin's already dynamic music career boasts unparalleled accomplishments. By the time he was sixteen, the artist had earned local name recognition as Aukey "O", siding with revered Bay Area rapper Outreygous Rey. Under the patriarch's wing Aukey "O" ("O" for original) dominated talent showcases throughout a 200 mile radius. One evening in 1990, on a fluke, Aukwin's cousin tossed him the telephone and he found himself a contender on KMEL's Battle of the Rappers- a popular weekly feature that pitted local MC's against each other for audience votes. Without hesitation Aukwin spit heated lyrics and brought a five-time running champion to defeat. The weeks of victory that followed, with continious wins and growing fan-fare, gave Aukwin his first taste of stardom. Many of his successes were claimed as a member of the group KNT (Kali Noize Terrorists) whose following began in the late 80's when their break dance crew- the Knuckle Neck Tribe- set off a trend that blazed from California to the Philippines. In 1991 KNT solidified its dedication to making music and found arms wide spread in the Bay Area's hip-hop community. Over the six years that followed, KNT would rock crowds and steal shows from some of the biggest names in the rap game.In 1993 the group was recruited into the line-up of the Gavin, sharing the stage with Black Sheep, Souls of Mischief, tha Alkoholics, Get Low Players and the Pharcyde. When, in 1995, San Francisco hosted Bomb Magazine's showcase of underground favorites, KNT was chosen to perform alongside Organized Konfusion and Masta Ace. KNT marked 1996 with the take over of an audience intended for Sho Biz and AG. Throughout the next year, the group's underground hits graced numerous compilations and by 1997 they had gained sponsorship from the Reebok Corporation.KNT's first single, "Meditation", off the self-titled album KNT, reawakened the crew's international following. They soon found themselves stepping up to the true test of their career. In the 1996 New Music Conference in New York City, hosted by Bobbito and Ed Lover, the Filipino composed west coast-based rap group found themselves on stage before the unwilling eyes of the east. It was at the peak of hip-hop's preoccupation with coastal animosity, a time when Bad Boy Records and Death Row Records were head to head in the industry's most heated conflict. KNT, with its own unique flavor and Aukwin's inspiring lyrics moved heads and won animate praises from such fellow performers as Big Pun, Jungle Brothers, Boot Camp Click, and the Brand Nubians. In 1999, after years of glory, KNT sadly saluted its faithful following. The politics of an ill-prepared local industry forced KNT to dissolve its professional relationship. Aukwin accepted that reality, and he moved forth with his music to a more particular destiny.Aukwin has always turned heads with his independant projects, but his greatest accomplishment came when Belita Woods of the P-Funk All Stars offered her voice to him on a track. She felt his potential and knew that his original style would one day find success. Belita cooed for him a melty R&B chorus on his self-composed "Dis is My Song" track which is now smoldering in the artist's archives, with numerous future hits.At the dawn of the new millenium , Aukwin's original song "Come See Us", featuring the legendary San Quinn, became a smash hit in the Bay Area. The song's recognition and consistent radio-play was only an indication of the mark it made. The "Come See Us" video, as the number one request on Rap Central, is a tribute to their place in time and the spirit of a rap-hungry city. Layered over R.Kelly's "When a Woman's Fed Up" beat, "Come See Us" is an anthem that has boosted Aukwin into the illustrious next arena of the Greats. .. width="425" height="350" .. Aukwin's most recent 12" single, "My Drama Weighs a Ton", off the "God Made Dirt and Dirt Don't Hurt" album, is all over 106.1 KMEL's radio frequency. As quoted by the Bay Area's finest and most respected hip-hop DJ, Pirate DJ Mind Motion, "My Drama Weighs a Ton" is "San Francisco's newest and greatest anthem." "God Made Dirt And Dirt Don't Hurt" clearly shows that a metropolis may have many MCs, but only a chosen few truly understand what makes one feel, desire, and inspire.Prophetic and poetic, Aukwin's lyrics spill from a place where abstract and concrete meet and irrelevance is intertwined with the full, ripe, preciousness of life. He enters into the new millennium on a mission to baffle minds and spread universal consciousness. The masses he will touch will be pulled...and if they are not, for Aukwin they will climb........................... FREEZE!! YOU KNOW WHO IT IZ!!??
