Simple Impartial Red

A rock musical based on the life of Jack the ripper...

About Me

My name is Jason, but most people simply know me as Red. I'm probably one of the most eccentric people you'll ever meet, although to fully understand the brevity of my claim you need to get to know me. I am lost in the dream of my life. Sometimes I think I have things figured out, but then the clarity fades and I am lost again...
I enjoy playing the guitar and was playing in a band called Sonic Alchemy for a while, but Sonic Alchemy is sadly no more... So yeah, I'm down to jam if anyone is interested.
I like music. A lot. More than pretty much anything. On top of that, I like pretty much all styles of music from classical to jazz to folk to punk to metal and a bunch of stuff in between there. I have very eclectic musical tastes, but what can you say it happens...
I am currently going to school in Red Wing, MN for guitar repair and construction, and hope to have a career in lutherie once school is done.

"Life is not going to be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely, in a pretty and well preserved body. I fully intend to skid in with my shoes on fire, a smile on my face, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "WOW!! What a friggin' Ride!”
That is all.Oh yeah, everyone should go surfing or snowboarding at least a few times in life. It makes it more worthwhile.
Check out Micah, he's awesome:

My Interests

I have recently taken up an interest in lutherie. If you do not know what this is, feel free to ask. I have a blog dedicated to the guitars I am building this year at http://redsguitars.blogspot.com so you should check it out. Aside from that I like to play guitar, write/read poetry and other literature, motorcycling, photography, film, arts of all kinds, doing stuff outdoors, anything that gets some adrenaline flowing, working on my bike, and creating things with my hands. Check out some photos I exposed and poetry I wrote at http://spiffamafied.deviantart.com

I'd like to meet:

People who are not lame and think or act in ways closer to the outer boundary of socially acceptable behavior. Cool people to make some sounds with and people to ride bikes or boards with. Also, people who share a similar perception of life would be cool. Meet the criteria? Hit me up on aim sn: Willy Uranamite

Music:

So this list can change quite frequently, but I currently have a very healthy obsession with gypsy jazz/manouche (Django Reinhardt, Twin Cities Hot Club, Steeve Laffont Sre Kidjales, Ritary Gaguenetti, Latcho Drom, etc...) Devendra Banhart, Vetiver, Ween, Joanna Newsom, Modest Mouse, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Ugly Casanova, Arcade Fire, The Decemberists, Explosions in the Sky, Rage Against the Machine, Black Sabbath, Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Dylan, Mason Jennings, Bad Religion, NOFX, The Clash, Rancid, The Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Anti-Flag, The Circle Jerks, Sublime, Lamb of God, Bela Fleck, Slightly Stoopid, Matisyahu, Bob Marley, Jack Johnson, Opeth, Cream, The Cure, Flogging Molly, Gogol Bordello, Wes Montgomery, Muddy Waters, Thelonious Monk, Cannonball Adderley, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, John Lee Hooker, Pedro the Lion, Air, Aqualung, The Shins, really random stuff of which this is just a small sampling...

Movies:

I watch a lot of movies. Recent movies I have enjoyed inlude, but are not limited to The Corpse Bride, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Man, Fear and Loathing, Secret Window, From Hell (anyone notice a pattern?) Magnolia, Crash, Waiting, The Motorcycle Diaries, Garden State, I 3 Huckabees, I'm tired of writing this list so I might add more later, and believe me this list could go on a while...

Television:

Flight of the Conchords is the best show ever, but other than that I like Entourage, Weeds, Dexter, American Chopper, and Metric Revolution.

Books:

I am currently reading Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig. I just finished Rant, the latest from Chuck Palahniuk and have enjoyed most of his other novels such as Fight Club, Diary, Choke, Lullaby, and Survivor. I love anything by Kurt Vonnegutd (Mother Night, Slaughterhouse 5, Breakfast of Champions, Cat's Cradle...) I have recently picked up some Jack Kerouac and his writing blows my mind... Other favorites include Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, John Stewart's America, Al Franken, etc... Robert Reich's Reason had some great rhetoric, so it is highly recommended. I read a lot, and pretty much whatever I can get my hand's on. I also like a lot of Poe's short stories, my favorite being "A Predicament" and I also enjoy Allen Ginsberg's poetry. So thats about it at the moment.

Heroes:

Good musicians, good writers, artists, people who stick up for what they believe in... too many to name.

Finally jumping on the quitting bandwagon...

I sure hope I can stay on.  I've been doing lots of reading on quitting smoking and decided on Tuesday night that it would be my last day as a smoker.  I'm sure anybody who reads this knows ...

What an interesting year it’s been so far...

Well, I started the year off with some bitter feelings, but the feelings are now more confusion than anything else.  I wish I had answers for everything, but there are certain things that answers...

And this year I hate winter.

This winter is lame.  For some reason, with all the lack of sunlight and surplus of cold, I always start thinking of all the crappy things in life instead of focusing on the positives.  I'm ...

New guitarmaking blog.

Well, I figured that a lot of people aren't interested in reading about all the little mundane steps in making guitars, so I decided to stop writing about it from here on out in this blog.  I hav...
