The Twin Cities Hot Club (TCHC) represents Minnesota in the burgeoning revival of gypsy jazz originally popularized by Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli and the Hot Club of France during 1930’s Paris. TCHC recreates not only the famous la pompe (the pump) that distinguishes this romantic brand of acoustic jazz, but also gypsy bossanova, musette, bolero and swing. TCHC perform this timeless deep-rooted music that is physical and speaks directly to the heart.
TCHC have been sharing their expressive, “hot†style with audiences since the fall of 2004. TCHC members Robert Bell (g), Reynold Philipsek (g), Gary Schulte (v), and Matt Senjem (b) perform standards from the genre, inspired original compositions and always communicate the joy in this music. The group has released a CD and DVD featuring a live performance, swing dancers and band/fan interviews.
TCHC has extensive performance experience including the Twin Cities Hot Summer Jazz Festival, Minnesota sur Seine with Dorado Schmitt, Michael Dregni book release for Django The Life and Music of a Gypsy Legend, Uptown Row Django Fest and the Minnesota State Fair to name a few. The group also has the longest running weekly gypsy jazz gig in Minnesota- every Sunday night from 8pm to 11pm at the Times Bar and Cafe in Minneapolis. In 2006, TCHC was nominated as best jazz artist by the Minnesota Music Academy.
