The Jayco Brothers

Even The Sweet Things Die

About Me

"Powell's songwriting ain't no relic, it's a living breathing thing and deserves to flourish.. (Groove Magazine)

With nods to Gram Parsons, Wilco and the Replacements, the Jayco Brothers blueprint reveals a passionate love of Americana music. Creative ambition extends beyond mere reverential replication - the Jayco Brothers raw to the bone, lived-in, unpretentious approach to song writing is the band's essence.

Originally salvaged from the ashes of the much loved Spokaine by co-founders Andrew Powell and Grant Ferstat mid-2002, the Jayco Brothers alt-country, orchestral, Telecaster-driven, sonic bar-room pop notched up a WAM Song of the Year award 12 months later for the song "Asbestos Fibro".
The debut EP, "Asbestos Fibro" (released in October ..05 on Treadmill Records/MGM) received rave reviews across the country and overseas. Drum Media's Ross Clelland called it "eminently tasteful... (The Jayco Brothers) arch and weep like country purists, but then add some sonic or pop twists to set it apart". Grok Magazine crowned it the "local release of the year". Seminal Americana on-line store, Miles of Music.com in the USA, thought so much of it they gave it their "It's A Cracker!" mark of approval and guarantee.

2006 saw The Jayco Brothers play a brilliant set supporting Dinosaur Jr which left many punters and one local scribe thinking the Jaycos had stolen the show! Another strong performance at RTRFM's annual In The Pines Festival had www.soulshine.com.au commenting on Powell's songwriting and noting "robust vocals and a good sounding backline made for a mature sounding outfit".

In July the band made its east coast debut after successfully applying for an ARTSWA touring grant. The band made the most of Melbourne's healthy alt-country scene both in venues such as the Tote and on the airwaves on 3RRR and PBS.

2007 has started promisingly with the band winning the Western Australian Music Industry Award for “Best Country Act”.
