Players of the State were formed at the start of 2006, under the watchful shadow of the old State Cinema which stands towering in the centre of Grays in Essex. The then trio of life long friends and local lads David Burpitt (drums) Mike Warncken (guitars) and Kevin Rush (bass) were writing and recording instrumental tracks in a studio they have put together in their home.
Things were ticking along nicely but clearly something was missing. In step Grant Toshack (vocals) an Edinburgh born front man straight out of the Richard Ashcroft mould of singers. Months passed before musical all round genius Tim Selwyn joined on keys, guitar and vocals, giving the band the feeling the final piece of the jigsaw was in place. The band then recorded the Bravery CD, a mixture of the best songs to date that the group had written, with Grant supplying the powerful vocals.
The band have one intention getting their unpretentious, honest music out to as many people as physically possible, offering the public the chance to enjoy the songs as much as they have loved writing it. With a loyal fanbase already in tow, Players of the State look forward to a busy year of performances around the UK.
