Jerrod Anton Howlett, aka Jugernaut began rappin at the age of 15. Many have asked, "Why the name Jugernaut? Isn't that an X-Men character?"
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, Juggernaut is defined as "a massive inexorable force, campaign, movement, or object that crushes whatever is in its path". He picked this name, dropping a "g" for originality, because with his lyrics and the movement he started with his label, N Da Buildin' Entertainment, he wanted to do just the same, so it seemed only fitting. What started as writing random verses and flowing to instrumentals eventually progressed into creating beats of his own on Fruity Loops, then on to producing and recording original tracks out the basement of his house. In end of 2004, he made his first independent album "Outta da Mouth of Babes" on his self-made record label KAJJ Records (now known as N Da Buildin Ent.). By the summer of 2005, he had finished a second solo album titled "The Growth", which by the title clearly showed a growth in his rhyming capabilities and beat making skills.
He continued in his work, recording tracks over the course of the year, some of which were used in a mixtape titled "Still Grindin'" which included 4 new tracks, freestyles, and old tracks from previous CD's. The mixtape was not distributed completely, being that it was only something that allowed Jugernaut to keep working and hone his skills. In the process, he created business contacts and new friendships, which allowed him to create both a fan base and network in the Lansing hip hop scene. In the summer of 2006, Jugernaut began work on creating his own record label, N da Buildin' Entertainment, L.L.C. As owner and CEO, he signed Philthy J aka the Young Black Hope on as a CEO, along with Ron Rob and Smooth aka JWill. Over the course of the summer, Jugernaut finished work on his 3rd but first major LP, "Undisputed", released December 19th, 2006.
In order to create a buzz for himself, Jugernaut entered his song "Do It Big" into a national mixtape search, and was honored with a spot in the Rob N' Hood Records mixtape titled "Civil War Pt. 6" (available at hiphopxrated.com). The mixtape should be dropping sometime in early September. Also, Jugernaut submitted the song "Move Around", a J.Knox produced beat with a feature from the L.O.R.D, to his local radio station for Battle of the Beats (a show on Saturdays called SNL showcasing local talent), and won 4 weeks in a row, becoming Grand Champion ..6 and allowing for his song to have regular radio play during SNL. He has performed at his school talent shows, and also at different public venues such as Respiration!! and other open mic gigs.
Jugernaut is currently working on a Myspace mixtape that will be released for free online as promotion for his next album, entitled "The Redefinition" comin' late summer 08. Be on the look out for "This Is Only A Promo Vol. 1" the Mixtape online for free download November 20th!
