Since the age of 16, David Cameo has been in and out of many rock bands. Never quite understanding the bullshit politics of highschoolers and their bullshit rock sound (which seemed like some fool-hardy ploy to bed other stuck-up Jewish girls... which never worked for himself, but probably worked for the others who designed the plot without his knowledge), he endeavored to broaden his horizons and develop his musical talent.
But even before then, growing up, he was shunned by others his age because of his lack of enthusiasm over 80's pop/rock music (mostly whatever was on the radio). About the only thing he remotely enjoyed was New Kids on the Block, and that was because of the strong bond the boy band provided him between himself and his siblings.
All this amounts to a journey to discover music from a perspective most people don't have. Growing up as a child to Middle-Eastern Jewish parents, listening to popular Arabic and Hebrew music on 8-track and audio casettes, not only was he exposed (against his will, mind you) to other types of music not normally heard, but unexposed to music like Creedance Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and the like.
In the end, or should I say "the begining," it amounted to a best friend exposing him to Faith No More that started this change inside him. From then on, he met other friends who exposed him to many more influences: the grunge scene, alternative rock, classic rock, brit pop/rock, punk rock, and finally new wave... and he was always an admirer of The Blues and Jazz (even Big Band)... and crooners like Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra.
Does the music sound anything like his influences? Not even he knows. The music comes from something inside him and is a result of... well, let's just say, anal retentiveness and a perfectionist disorder. If it's not unique in some fashion, it's not worth playing. In some ways, it's trippy... others, it rocks. Sometimes it has a folky feel to it... and sometimes you just want to just shelf it as "alternative" and be done with it. Most of the material is written on an acoustic, so maybe that's a start, but when it comes down to it, anything goes, as far as description.
After living in Chicago for the better part of a year and a half to work hard on writing and permorming, he now lives in Brooklyn, New York and is giving it a go with his music career, as well as working as a full-time partner-in-training at 3nom , an IT consulting/services group.
