almost anything really.i wanna b a sessionist so i have to lissen to anything as i'll have to play anything wen i become one!!!! funky aint it, lolhave really got into new orleans radio at the moment cuz i jus found it on the internet and put it on and fell in love with it. www.neworleansradio.com CHECK IT OUT, ITS AWESOME!am really into film music because its really imaginative and film music is what makes a film. the music from the deer hunter was absolutely awesome! i think it has john williams on who's a great classical guitaristi also love lissenin to music from ballet. swan lake has some absolutely breath taking peices in it as does the nutcracker. its jus such a pure and wonderful art form to watch.opera is very big with me at the moment too. la traviata is such a great thing to hear but have only been into opera a short wile so dont really have much to say bout it, oh well.have really been gettin back into choral music lately so people like tallis, benedictus mass for peace is brilliant as well. my advice BUY IT!new people in my ears at the moment are charlie hunter, my god you have to see his guitar it looks like the neck is twisted as the frets from fan out from the middle of the guitar, the lower three being bass and higher 5 being guitar, brad mehledau is pretty hot as is, brian melvin, the bournemouth syphony orchestra and the labum synfonieta and of course NICKEL CREEK! my god the mandolin player, chris thile i think he's called is awesome. way better better than vai or satriani etc cuz he can do all that fast shite on a mandolin which is tiny but he aint hiding behind distortion whilst he does it.am very big on alison krauss rite now. she has such a great voice u should check out her website alisonkrauss.com she has worked with nickel creek producing an album of theirs and she has an incredible voice, enjoy :)ok time for some new things, right an opera called porgy and bess by george gershwin is very big with me right now. i have the version that simon rattle recorded so you know its good if he has worked on it. it has some great tunes like "summer time" (sure you all know that one :) and it is a master piece! also the soundtrack from the lord of the rings trilogy is amazing. my brother gave it to me as a gift and i reeally cant stop listening to it!!!!! THE RITE OF SPRING BY STRAVINSKY, ok now this is a seriously heavy weight work. i haven't seen the ballet but my god the music is so ground breaking, so detailed and although some people may find it hard to digest i think its incredible. the score for the firebird is also one of my favourite works. now those are two ballets i jus have to see :) the new RHCP album "stadium arcadium" is cool its nice to see them combining some newer ideas but incorporating some old skool funk in their aswell and last of all, VICTOR WOOTEN and his album "yin-yang". i know loads of people say he is souless and simply technique but this album really shows his more musical side. "imagine this" is my favourtie song right now has some cool fretless stuff and the hole album is alot of fun to listen to for me :)the sound track from the lord of the rings trilogy is very big with me right now aswell, there are some great melodies and i think the music is very definative and unique. you can tell where its from by just hearing a few notes and i love how they have different themes for each film within the music. my favourite has to be the music from return of the kings tho. i think those pieces have the best melodies. ok, more stuff, jus a quick one a song on the jaco pastorius anthology disc two called "out of the night" played by brian melvin. has such a great groove. an awesome summer tune methinks!more new stuff then (20/06/06) ok jus got a hold of alison krauss and union station live is fucking wicked but some gd new stuff is............ TRIBAL TECH! i no the name sounds odd but i went to a master class by their bassist and yeah some of it is hard to get into and it sounds a tad dated but god its fun also dennis chambers and his album outbreak i love it! he's such an incredible drummer.the buena vista social club are big with me right now aswell. just some really great songs. i love world music so much kinda makes me think about what i am doing alot more and is interesting to listen to. if i had to recomend a track i would say "El Cuarto De Tula" is a favourite of mine some great precussion and that guy on there is a great singer!ok the 12/10/06 and yes i have finaly found a decent recording of the four seasons by vivaldi. has really pissed me off because i jus cant find one that sound natural enough in how its conducted or jus not warm and lively enough in its tone when it needs to b but i have one with claudio abbado conducting and its amazing. seriously its a great work so buy it lol. hey i have been lissenin to an album called "officium" by jan garbarek and the hilliard ensemble" its cool, its fusion music between a medievil male choral quartet and jan garbarek who is a jazz saxophonist. best track if u ask me is "Parce Mihi Domine" very very soothing! have kinda gone full circle again (30/07/06)and have gotten really into film music again. have bought the soundtrack to pirates of the caribbean one and two (curse of the black pearl and dead mans chest) and they are both great. i think i prefer the "dead mans chest" soundtrack because i think it has better orchestration. it just sound alot thicker and fuller more colour in the tone i suppose you could say. but yeah definately worth buying :) ok more new stuff (11/8/06) now i hav finally got hold of the other two nickel creek albums "this side" and "whyn should the fire die" they are cool and have some great tracks but i still think the self titled album is the best. the hot club of dublin are also a favourite at the moment. they do loads of jazz standards like "pennies from heaven". its amazing they are all wicked singers so the 3 part harmonies are spot on and the guitarist and violin player are really something gd. i saw them, live in dublin and they were incredible, simply alof of fun to lissen to. finally a chap called "ERIK MONGRAIN" no this guy is truely special! go on www.youtube.com and search for him and a song of his, i think its on there called "guitar tapping" its amazing such a new way of playing and such an inspiring new sound. i'm a huge fan! have lately been getting back into the chopin nocturnes, i have daniel baremboim's recordings of them and he plays them all so beautifully, so much care and grace in them :) check out nocturne in E flat, amazing!also on the jazz side of things THE BAD PLUS are big with me. i dont think the improv is quite as cool as ppl like pat metheny (he's amazing too btw) or as gd as brad mehldau's improvising but still i think the arrangements are amazing! there is so much wieght and power behind their sound and overall groove "dirty blonde" and "and here we test our powers of observation" from the album "the bad plus - give" show this off extremely well i feel! lately i have been given three incredible CD's by a very dear friend (1/9/06) they are richard souther's "Illumination" which also features a great singer called Hildegard Bon Vingen. favourite tracks are "solitude" which is one of the most amazing solo piano pieces i have ever heard and "tree of wonders" which is again very aptmopheric. the second CD is the sounds track from "pride and prejudice" favourite track is one called "Mrs Darcy" all the songs on here are quite short but again theya are great to hear on rainy days :) and finally the third CD is called "Echoes" by Ludavico Einaudi. The first track called "waves" is amazing! again its rainy day music but it is really the sort of stuff (all of these three are infact) where once you put it on you have a vey hard time taking repeat off and turning off the CD player, thanks to the lovely becky costello for those three :) ok even more new stuff (4/09/06) SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE! my god they are so funky. cool tracks are "thank you" which was one of the first tracks if not the first to feature slap bass which i love :) and also "family affair" and "can't nickname the truth" are amazingly groovy tunes :) GOTTA LOVE THE FUNK! and even more funk (courtesy of the fabulous thomas vincent) is the top 100 dance hits album. this is like old school disco and funk. seriously every funky disco beat you could ever wish for (pretty much) is on here and is a must have for your collection. thanks again thom :) ok it has been ages since i last did something here (10/07/07) ok new music bella fleck and the flecktones. me and my brother bill went to see them in january and they were amazing (not to mention victor wootens solo spot :P) mindblowing anything with their name on is worth buying, john goldie! ok this guy is a lesser known guitarist although he is on myspace i am fairly sure and he did a masterclass at my music school and it was unbelievable. he can play a bass line, harmonies and a melody all at the same time on one guitar, stunning! "KISSING YOU" the romeo + juliet version. its one of the most gorgeously arranged songs i have ever heard i love it to death and finally the soundtrack to "THE HOURS" by philip glass i have jsut bought it today and i don't think i shall ever want to get rid of it for the rest of my life. it is easily the best soundtrack to a film in my opinion and it's also in my opinion the best film i have ever seen so make sure you get that on dvd too :P
a clockwork orange, very strange but soooo good. the matrix was a nice idea. looked soo gd wot with the bullet time! lord of the rings is cool but the book is better. oh yeah rain man. the actin is actually well good in that! i went to see "inside man" this wednesday just gone (5/04/06) it is amazing. a great plot and some really thrilling scenes. had me guessing till the end. go and see it if youre asking me :D
mmmmm dont watch that much but things like family guy, the simpsons, futurama r good. music channels and documentaries r funky too.
anything original, although i do love a good autobiography.jonny cash: man in black or anthony keidis: scar tissue are me favourites soo far!ok new stuff, anything by john katzenbach (i think thats how u spell it) in particular the analyst and a mad mans tale. they are awesome and totally suck u rite into the book (many thanx to dave marks for those two :)i'm reading a book about jaco pastorius rite now aswell its cool to no about his background and he was such a great player!oh yeah anything on composition, orchestration, harmony or just music :)
