About Me

MySpace LayoutsHi, I'm Tom, 19 from Cwmbach, Aberdare in South Wales. I'm quite tall, thin and shy, but once u get to know me, ur sure 2 like me!!!! (If my obsessive drumming doesn't annoy u) =] I've been playing for just over 2 years now, and it's great!! Drums are so great to play and sitting behind a drum kit gives you a great sense of skill and power over music. In August 2005, I won the Roland Drum Institute Partial Scholarship Award, and I started my course in October 2006. Its great living in London, getting to see the sights!! The Institute is such a great place to study. There are talented musicians all around you, and the drum teachers are amazing!! Pete Zeldman kicks ass on the drums, he has outrageous chops!! And I look up to all of the teachers there, they've helped me a lot so far, in terms of my development as a professional musician. I think I'm having the time of my life playing drums in the Institute!!! But now the course has finished, which is sad, but I will soon be starting a Degree course with the Institute. Right now, I just want to keep learning, keep gigging, and see where things go! Finally at the graduation ceremony, I was awarded a Pass with Merit for the diploma, and I was also named the "Most Improved Drummer", which was a great honour! In other news, I've joined a rock band called "Night Trip". These guys have some awesome songs and they're awesome musicians too! Please check out www.myspace.com/nighttrip We're already started gigging, and we hope to be pretty busy in the new few months! My score on The what drummer are you Test :
John Bonham
(You scored 72 Rockabillity and 81 Style!)
LED ZEPPELIN The GOD, ohhh you must know your drumming, a sheer legend!! Drop me a line if ya want to!

My Interests

I LIKE DRUMS!!!!! If i'm not drumming, i'm probably near death.........I also play squash, been playing for nearly 10 years I think, and its great fun, made a lot of friends. But since I've been living in London, I havn't been able to play squash as much, which is a shame. My highest ranking whilst playing in Junior Squash tournaments was 15th in the Boys U19 Catagory in Wales! But I also spend my time just playing computer games, watching T.V, the usual...

I'd like to meet:

Neil Peart because he is the greatest drummer in the world!!!!!!!!! (Shut up rhys) Plus any sexy women!!
You Are Animal
A complete lunatic, you're operating on 100% animal instincts.
You thrive on uncontrolled energy, and you're downright scary.
But you sure can beat a good drum.
"Kill! Kill!" The Muppet Personality Test

Music:

I'm a big fan of Rush, the progressive rock trio...... their drummer Neil Peart is the greatest drummer in the world, and i will personally kill any1 who thinks otherwise!! My other fav bands include The Who, Led Zeppelin, Green Day, Slipknot, Genesis, Dream Theater, Blink 182, Alien Ant Farm, Van Halen and Thin Lizzy. I actually listened 2 sum jazz not so long ago, by the Buddy Rich Big Band, and its ok!

Movies:

I like lots of movies....Comedy, Horror, Action e.t.c But I (and my sister) believe that the greatest movie of all time is Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit!! It was just ------ amazing!!!!!!!!! CHEESE GROMIT!!! The Simpsons Movie is fantastic also. Some incredibly funny one-liners in it!And the funniest movies of all time seem to always include Leslie Nielsen, the man is a legend! Everybody must see "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun", Plus I strongly recommend his video "Bad Golf Made Easier"

Television:

My fav program on da tv at the mo is Lost....I'm just got hooked on it!! Season 4 is gonna be mad!! But I like watching sitcoms like The IT crowd and Blackadder. Some other good shows include Friends, The Simpsons, Futurama, Malcom In The Middle, Prison Break, South Park and so on

Books:

Dun read a lot, except for drumming magazines!!

Heroes:

My Major influence in drumming is Neil Peart..... I listened to the drum solo in 'YYZ' on the "Exit...Stage Left" album, and it was so magnifisant that it was then I decided to become a drummer!! His solos are just works of art, no other drummer in the world can top what he does. Although, since joining the Institute, I have been greatly inspired by the drum teachers. They've shown me that to survive in today's music business, you need to be able to play whatever is required of you, whether it be some latin grooves, some jazz beats, or just a solid pop beat. Now I try to learn the different styles, improve my technique, and push the boundaries of my abilities even further. So I thank the guys at the Institute: Justin Scott, Pete Zeldman, Neil Martin, Fergus Gerrad, Darren Ashford and James 'Oz' Oscroft! You guys rock!!This is a special animated version of Neil Peart drumming to one of my favourite Rush songs "YYZ"This is a video of Neil Peart's Drum Solo from "Rush in Rio" in 2004, entitled "O Baterista"Here's another Neil Peart drum solo, taken from the Buddy Rich Memorial Scholarship show in 1989. He can play just as well on a small kit!!
