EVERYONE HAS A STORY..HERE'S MINE...
My name is Karina and I was born in Dominican Republic.. middle child, only girl (that explains a lot lol). Me and my family came to NY because my younger brother was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and there were better opportunities for him here.
Well, my parents have always been very hardworking. Especially the first years here. My parents didn't have the money to put me in piano classes, or dance classes, or none of that. I took an interest to the arts on my own in third grade. The music teacher came in my class and asked if any of us were interested in playing an instrument, and something inside made me go. They only had a few woodwind instruments and I picked the flute (although I originally wanted to play violin).
I had always wanted to sing, act, dance, and model. Some people want to be lawyers, doctors, managers, and so on.. others like the whole performing thing! I just never had the opportunity. I mean, I made my mother take me to a modeling school, but what a waste that was! lol. I kept on with the flute, and in high school joined Drama... participated in the musicals and such.
I honestly was following my dreams on my own. Began training myself with books and CD's. Although my mom had said that you had to be born into that kind of thing and family, I believed that I could do it.. even if it wasn't the same way others had done it. Why couldn't I do what I want to do? It's my life, and I have a chance, so i'm going for it!
It's definitely hard when you're on your own, and haven't had that kind of push and training from a young age, but it's not impossible. I want to show others that they can follow their dreams no matter what. If they didn't have the opportunity because of money and other issues, they can still do it!
My middle name, Estela, means Star. That explains my name, and I add the symbol of the star to remind me to keep going, not to give up.
God, if I made it.. I would have my brother receive the BEST friggin therapy ever!
I'm very focused and determined... BUT! I am fun, crazy, outgoing, silly, and such lol. I love making people laugh! (Those who know me in person, know i'm nuts!) I'm not here looking for affection.. just looking to come across all sorts of people, and to network.
