You know the kind of people who say they have "broken hearts?" It's not true. First off they/you should, if they seriously have a broken heart, shut up about it because all they're/you're doing when they/you whine about it is showing that they/you feel really sorry for themselves/yourself and want everyone to feel absolutely horrible because they/you have a "broken heart." If they/you truly had a "broken heart" then they/you would not flaunt it in front of everyone.
Secondly it is impossible to have a "broken heart," again for two reasons.
Firstly when you say that you have a "broken heart" you obviously where "in love." I'm going to say true love because that is the only kind of love that lasts -when pertaining to the opposite sex and intimate realationships.- If you are truly, I mean truly in love then you will never feel differently about it. There's no such thing as falling out of love. I'm not saying that the kind of love won't change, for example into a sort of brotherly/sisterly love, but the degree of love will never change. If you love someone then you will be willing to sacrifice everything for them, to the extent of your own life or even worse, not being with them.
My second reason to the second reason is that it is impossible to have a "broken heart" because of simple science. The heart is a muscle, you can not break a muscle, you can tear it. Most of the time the tear is repairable and by this process of tearing and rebuilding the muscle is made stronger. Thus, the heart strengthens every time we suffer a bad relationship. Making it impossible to have a broken heart. However in the most extreme circumstances it is poissible to rend the heart in two. This however, would end in the same result as the scientific counter-part for this analogy.
