'Sonny Brown is a label mate of Mullyman and a talented rapper in his own right, but lately his most significant contribution to the burgeoning local hip-hop scene is hosting and organizing the Monday night showcase at 5 Seasons. Old School Mondays probably isn't the venue's most well-attended regular event, but it is the most comfortably laid-back one. Some weeks there's a CD-release party, some weeks there's an audition to appear on a big project like the soundtrack to the locally produced movie Charm City, sometimes everyone looks happy just to hang out and listen to DJ Jabril spin records. Although there's handful of booked acts each week, invariably Brown ends up ceding the spotlight to local stars such as Comp and no-names alike, allowing them to hit the stage and premiere some new material or just freestyle for a few minutes, lending the night a loose, anything-goes atmosphere. Although Sonny Brown's efforts to foster the careers of other young MCs is appreciated, we just hope he takes some time to focus on his own soon and finally drop his solo mixtape, Ginger Bread Man, which we've been anticipating for what feels like forever.'
