Dave Gardner first received his introduction to dance music back in the days before acid house year zero in 1988, where living in Italy he first started to get into the sounds of Sterling Void and DJ International and many others that would soon form a phenomenon that would change the world of music forever.
After a brief stint living in the US from 1989 to 1991, he returned to his native homeland in the UK and starting studying at the University Of London, where classes were often missed as Dave began djing for his friends on campus, whilst regular trips were made to such legendary as the Hacienda where such DJs as Graeme Park, Jon Da Silva. further sparked his interest even further. Throw in regular jaunts to The Drum Club in London, and The Eclipse in Coventy when he returned home and this is where Dave's career really started.
It was in his home town of Coventy that his first real djing experience would come, via numerous slots at his local clubs. This led to a meeting with Joel Xavier from Whoop! Records, with whom a friendship was formed, and very soon he was playing all over London at the widely regarding Whoop! It Up parties, where he came to meet many of his peers, most of whom are still in the business to this day. It was with Joel, and Joel's friends Andy Lekker and Andy Holt that Dave's first foray into production came, with several productions and remixes under the collective guise of Ground Zero, with their work receiving huge support from DJs all over the globe.
Andy Holt would soon sign to Whoop! as Redanka, and it was not long after that that him and Dave introduced the Nerva project to the world, spawning tracks including 'Arzamas 16' and 'Modo VII'. From here, Dave ended up in Israel, spending time amongst the DJs and producers there and playing several times at the massive Haoman 17 club, before returning to the UK to take up a residency at The Union in Leeds, alongside fellow resident and friend Maurice.
The third Nerva single 'The Jackal' was released on Pitch Black, and his partnership with the label ironically led to another, as it was through the label he met another up and coming producer of the time, Michael Thomas, who was soon to become a reckoning force within the underground music scene himself.
The duo's first track as Gardner and Thomas was 'Primitive Side', which was quickly followed by 'Propaganda', a track that received support in many of Sasha's sets, with everyone else jumping on it subsequently thereafter. As their partnership grew, they came to the attention of Red Jerry at Hooj, and it was here that a turning point came. The track 'Control' was their first release on Hooj and was quickly followed by 'Turn To Try', both of which became two of the labels best releases in a short period of time.
The last few years since have seen Dave venture into the studio and finish Zoomin, the first of many solo projects hes been steadily working on, and hes also found time to collaborate with up and coming Israeli artist Ophir Star on a number of high profile remix project which includes artists such as Fischerspooner, Dum Dum and work for labels including Bedrock. It was due to Daves Israeli connection that he came to remix Guy Gerbers Stoppage Time, a track he brought to the attention of Bedrock whom subsequently signed it, with the track becoming one of the labels biggest releases in year.
But Daves career isnt about chance happenings or being in the right place at the right time. Its the career of someone whos put in the hard graft, and silently worked his upwards. Currently Dave spends his time as part of the team at Excession that helps create the edits for Sashas conceptual Maven setup, in addition to a new found production partnership with fellow old school legend Paul Sidoli. This had lead to a host of project including remixes of planet funk, guy gerber, morgan page to name a few. With solo material on the way and a new project with long standing friend Redanka. things are moving onwards and upwards. One things for sure, the man whos always quietly worked in the shadows has now emerged, standing right at the forefront.
