The music gels together perfectly, expanding from deep earthy tones with Crawl Unit and Rapoon to outright treble overload with Mlehst, Pregnant Pause and Flutter with almost no room to breath in between, leaving the listener exhausted and yet strangely satisfied by the end of the Journey.

"I can hear things.

"Late at night, if not sufficiently drained from the day, I hear things. Walking to work I hear them too. Increasingly I find that in the fragments of existence that aren't filled to capacity resides a sound, a noise, or perhaps a sensation, and if you can tune out the myriad of competing frequencies, you'll hear it too.

"To describe this sound is a fearsome task indeed. It can rattle like a dish-rack before an approaching earthquake, it buzzes similar to your annoying refridgerator, and sometimes it's the frail squeals of amplifier-damaged ears. But inevitably, its lithe form shifts and avoids apprehension leaving me with a heart-bursting sense of having not quite grasped something of great interest."

"‘Mynydd Preseli’ (the Preseli Mountains) is a continuation on a theme and is the final part of a Pembrokeshire influenced trilogy. The two previous albums in this series were, ‘The Last Seaweed Collecting Hut at Freshwater West’ and ‘Skomargraph’ (the latter, a title based on Skomer Island) both of which were released on Ochre.

"Pembrokeshire is an inspirational place and on admiring and exploring the beautiful landscape, I have found that it is not long before the creative juices are flowing.

"The air is so clean, healthy and invigorating in this part of West Wales, in which lush countryside gives way to the coast; the scenery is just outstanding. A calmness, indeed a slower pace of life, is so evident in this part of the world, a land steeped in history going back to the day of Neolithic man and long before.

"‘Mynydd Preseli’ is at times just downright isolated, desolate and eerie - I have attempted to portray the feel of the mountains at their highest point, the ancient tracks, the wildlife, igneous rock outcrops, raw material through to the vegetation! "I can honestly say that on ‘Mynydd Preseli’ the musical influences have been sought not from musicians but from the elements themselves - the wind, rain, sun etc. and I have also attempted to conjure up sounds of Neolithic man at work with his tools.

"Minimalist and experimental, the music is hopefully as thought-provoking and challenging to you the listener as it was intended."

"Music, for me, is neither something that I create, nor a form of self-expression. All kinds of sounds exist everywhere around us, and my performances solely consist of picking up these sounds, like a radio tuner, and playing them so that people can hear them. However, maybe because my reception is somewhat off, I am unable to perfectly reproduce these sounds. That is why I spend my days rehearsing.

"Where do these sounds come from? Who is sending them out? That is not something for me to know, and neither is there any way that I could find out. I simply believe that they come from the “cosmos”. (Maybe other people would call God the source). Since I was a small child I have been prone to hearing ringing sounds in my ears and other sound phantasms. At the time, I believed that these were messages aimed directly at me from a UFO, and so I would gaze up at the sky. But once I started playing music myself, I came to feel that these noises were a kind of pure sound. And I promised myself that one day I would be able to play those sounds myself. It is only recently that I have begun to feel that I have been able to come close to reproducing these sounds – in my solo guitar work, and in my INUI project.

"The greatest difference between these two styles is that, on the one hand, INUI consists of multi-tracked recordings of mainly ethnic instruments. This allows me to slowly pursue the sounds that I have heard, irrespective of time – however, I am unable to respond to the new cosmic sounds that constantly enter my hearing. On the other hand, my solo guitar work is in an improvisational style, without any overdubbing whatsoever. In terms of time, this allows me to be far more responsive, but I am unable to explore the sounds in any real depth.

"However, in June of 1999, I finally discovered my own “cosmos” and I experienced an instant of total union with it!! That “cosmos” is still tiny in size - although any cosmos can, by its very nature, be infinitely huge or infinitely small. The energy and vibrations contained within that it far exceeded my imagination in scope and beauty. I can only describe the miraculous instant when my “cosmos” accepted my consciousness as MAGIC.

"This record was recorded under the beneficial influence of the beautiful power and vibration from my personal “cosmos” (though, of course, I cannot deny the limitations of my personal radio tuner). It was an experience for which I am profoundly grateful. Finally, these pieces were performed in a totally improvised style. No overdubbing or tape manipulation whatsoever were used. Tracks one and three were performed with just the violin bow, track two uses finger picking."

"outerdrive formed about four years ago. i met joshua in one of my classes at wayne state university in detroit. one day i asked him if he wanted to get together and play some music. he agreed and brought along his brother who i hadn’t met at the time. from day one, we never discussed notes or keys. our music has always been improvisational. eventually we started inviting other musicians over to add new sounds into the mix. we met geoff through a mutual friend. the first time we played with geoff was amazing. his intense visual sound and ear for dynamics allowed the band to explore even deeper into uncharted territory. geoff adds the sci-fi horror show aspect to our smooth and subliminal psychedelia. this disc was recorded in colorado in the garage of our house and the rosevelt national forest. all tracks were recorded live to two tracks and are 100% improvisational. this music was never played before it was recorded and has never been played since."
