About Me

ONYA is Ireland’s most exciting singer songwriter. She has been a full-time musician for the past four years, writing, recording and touring worldwide. Onya comes from Bundoran,Co. Donegal, a popular surf town on Ireland’s North-West Coast. Bundoran is noted for its bohemian culture- a fusion of traditional Irish values with a lively and very contemporary music and surf scene. Known locally as a surf chick, Onya’s funky style and irrepressible attitude have made her a very popular, original and interesting singer-songwriter. Often compared to a young Janis Joplin, Onya’s style combines the traditional musical expertise of the Irish with a very contemporary and rock-chick attitude. Her themes reflect her upbringing in a small Irish rural town, which has been catapulted into the 21st century. She explores the contradiction of the virgin and the harlot, the role of women in today’s world, but always with terrific energy and gusto. Her amazing vocals can deliver the sweetest ballads (The Mistress) and the raunchiest of innuendo-filled rock tunes (Johnny Depp)Having played the Irish circuit between 2005/2007, Onya began touring in the USA, road-testing her impressive song collection to an American audience. She travelled to New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin, Dallas, San Diego & Boston, performing in venues such as The Roxy, Rainbow Room, CBGB’s, Sin E, The Saint & Sweetwater. In 2008 she has been invited to play the Folk Alliance Showcase in Memphis and SXSW in Austin,TX. Onya will then concentrate on writing and recording her next cd.Her debut cd ‘Secrets and Lies’ was recorded in her home town of Bundoran, and these songs are an eclectic selection of her most popular downloads and live requests from her catalogue to date. Influences: ONYA is guitar based rock: influenced by all the good things in life- surf rock, country, alt country, rock and roll, blues, folk and more rock. Lead singer Onya loves Janis Joplin, and her version of 'Piece of my Heart' never fails to raise the roof. Onya's early influences also include country greats Dolly Parton, Emmy Lou Harris and folk/rock like Ryan Adams , Bruce Springsteen, Jewel, Joni Mitchell etc. Girls with guitars have always influenced this band, from Chrissie Hynde and Sheryl Crowe to Gwen Stefani and KT Tunstall. :
