Ignorance is a disease....Knowledge is Power

About Me

..This profile was edited with MySpace Profile Editor MySpace Profile Editor Well, i don't really know where to start with this and it's always weird to write something about you that truly defines who you are. So i'll be simplistic and talk about my passions in life. I am fascinated by the human brain. Yes the brain! It is the organ in the body that i believe truly shows us how magnificent God is. This one organ controls every single movement in your body, from a simple blink to recollection of memories and stored information. This fascination with the brain and all things medical, inspired me at the tender age of 2 to want to become a physician. So here i am today, a senior in college, majoring in Biology/pre medicine, with minors in chemistry and ethnic studies, hoping to one day work as a tool for God and become a neurosurgeon. I believe that there is greatness in every one of us, all we have to do is reach in and let the best in us shine for the whole world to see. We have to dig within us to pull out that which differentiates us from others: a light given to each of us by God and only when we let that light shine, are we able to truly see the good in us and in others. My all time favorite quote is by Nelson Mandela and he used it during his first inaugral speech, and it never ceases to inspire me, no matter how many times I read it:"Our biggest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our biggest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so other people won't be insecure around you. We were born to make maginificent the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciouly give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fears, our presence automatically liberates others." .
Brainy Kid
In high school, you were acing AP classes or hanging out in the computer lab.
You may have been a bit of a geek back then, but now you're a total success! Who Were You In High School? The love of God is what keeps me going. I love Jesus. Everything that I am is by His mercy and His love and compassion towards me. He suffered, bled and died alone, alone for you and me despite the fact that we are sinners. Nobody can ever love you like God loves you. Everything good that you wish for yourself, He wishes for you a billion times better. Even admist stormy times and tribulations, we have to believe that He will never forsake us. Without Him I AM NOTHING. For only such a Friend as He, could pardon, cleanse and make me free.href="http://www.blogthings.com/whatdoesyourbirthdateme anquiz/"What Does Your Birth Date Mean?

My Interests

I love to read. I read things just about on any topic...if it is printed, i'd probably read it. I especially like to read up on different people and places that i have never been to, and i like to read research on interesting or weird incidences. I am deeply passionate about medicine and the biological scineces as a whole. I wanna be a neurosurgeon one day, so the brain is a fascination of mine. Although i haven't played since I was younger, the game of soccer is a major interest of mine. I love to listen to music, go to the movies and just chill with a few good pals.

I'd like to meet:

Another one of my favorite quotes is from Mahatma Gandhi “A man is the sum of his actions, of what he has done, of what he can do, nothing else.” That being said, i would love to meet Dr. Ben Carson --the first black Head of Neurosurgery at any American Hospital. He is currently the Head of Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University. Also Dr. Keith L. Black, Director of the Maxine Dunitz Neurosurgical Institute and Director of Neurosurgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. An internationally renowned neurosurgeon and scientist. Nelson Mandela and Oprah Winferey. I'd like to meet interesting people....I guess that leaves it open to many types of personalities....people who aren't afraid to keep it real and stand by their convictions. Being wishy washy is a very unattractive quality. I like people who know who they are and aren't afraid to defend their principles. It's always nice to make new friends so if you feel like introducing yourself....don't hestiate.

Music:

I love to listen to all kinds of music. U2 is awesome! I love Jazz, especially the classic jazz singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole and of course Sarah Vaughn. Stevie Wonder. I'm also into some contemporary up and coming jazz instrumentalists like Chris Botti and Marc Antoine (not marc anthony) Kenny g, Fourplay, Suede. i also love anything and everything from B.B. king. I am a big fan of hip hop and rap (although i'm a bit disenchanted with these new over-commercialized, watered down rappers, who have nothing but catchy beats to back them up...) and well...Tupac. N.E.R.D./PHARRELL, Kanye, RBL, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Destiny's Child (Beyonce,), Fantasia, Jill Scott, India.Arie, and can't forget PRINCE!!!. I love Reggae music...Bob Marley was a genius. I love the classic rockers like the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Red Hot Chilli peppers and Bon Jovi. Coldplay is hot! Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls, Gorrillaz, Nickelback, Linkin Park, LifeHouse, the Police (Sting), James Blunt, Bryan Adams, Keane, Five for Fighting, The Fray, Snow Patrol, The Scissors Sisters, Sade, Staind, Breaking Benjamin. And the African Highlife music king the great late Fela Kuti and now his son Femi Kuti. I love gospel music and my fav artists include CeCe Winans, Donnie McClurkin and Yolanda Adams and J Moss. Seal, ....And one of my best friends, Porsche Smith...she's hot y'all! The list is just about endless. When it comes to music, i can honestly say that i am very open-minded and i'll give just about anything a listen.

Movies:

I love to laugh, so any movie that can be make me laugh is cool with me. Napoleon Dynamite, Coming to America, There's Something about Mary.... Hustle and Flow, Closer, Dirty Pretty Things, Juice, Boyz in Da Hood, Training Day, Mississippi Masala, The Passion of the Christ, Glory, Sound of Music, Brokeback Mountain, Spider Man 2, A time to Kill, Crash, Heaven and Earth, The New World, Maria Full of Grace, the list goes on.....but on a slightly different note, i have developed a great admiration for the films of the late Japanese director Akira Kurosawa. His films like the Seven Samurai, Rashomon, Yojimbo and Sanjuro are classical film making.

Television:

I don't watch too much television, but when i do, i enjoy shows like Friends, Seinfeld, House, Grey's Anatomy and the Critical Hour on the Discovery Health Channel. I love documentries on the History Channel and Discovery Health Channel cause you never know what ecentric and mind-boggling phenomenom you might hear about. And of course PBS!

Books:

The Bible, The Autobiography of Malcom X, Souls of Black Folks, King Leopold's Ghost, The Mis-Education of the Negro, anything by the phenomenal Maya Angelou, most of the books by John Grisham, Ken Follet, Shakespearan plays, Kindred, Beloved, The Color Purple, Anatomy of the brain, A day on the Frontal Lobe, Gifted Hands, A Time To Kill, Jane Eyre, Pride & Prejudice, Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Almost everything by Mark Twain, Things Fall Apart and everything by Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka, Their eyes were watching God, King Leopold's Ghost, Gifted Hands, Black Boy................This list is truly endless.....to ask me to pick my favorite books is like asking me to pick a favorite star from the heavens.......where do i begin?

Heroes:

Jesus Christ. And my grandmother is phenomenal. I have a great respect for the Civil Rights leaders, Malcom X, Martin Luther King Jr., and Rosa Parks, and many others like them, for having the courage and determination to question and fight against inequalities against marginalized people.
