The Rotten is a four-piece punk band from Kitchener, Ontario that strive to keep the old school sound of the 70s alive. With influences such as Dead Boys, Sex Pistols, UK Subs and Iggy and the Stooges, the Rotten generates punk that is reminiscent of the 70s but relevant today. The line-up including Janerik Rotten (guitar, vocals), Brando Cide (guitar, b-vocals), Sooley (bass, b-vocals) and Spangi Dust (drums, vocals) takes a step away from tradition and explores a more unique line-up of both male and female presence.Since forming in 1999, The Rotten has released two full-length albums (Destroy This Wretched Country, 2000 and Circus of the Demented, 2003) and two single (Lets Go, 1999 and Trophy Doll, 2002). The Rotten has also appeared on compilation CDs including the Kitchener Domination compilation, R U Ready 4 the Helicopter?, the Anti-Racists Action compilation, De-boned and numerous others throughout Canada. Throughout the first 5 years The Rotten has shared the stage with Canadian punk rock legends including Forgotten Rebels, Dayglo Abortions, Cheerleader, BFG's and Dirty Bird as well as others and American bands including Blanks77.The Rottens political background makes them an alternative to todays more mainstream message. They have participated in local organizations that promote anti-racism and anti-sexism among other things. They also helped to open and fund a youth drop in centre that was established to give homeless youth in the downtown of Kitchener a place to be safe from the streets. With a growing fan base, The Rotten is an up-and-coming band in Canadas punk rock scene.
