Thanatopsis

Thanatopsis was a California Bay Area progressive thrash-death metal band from the early 90's. Influenced by bands like Death, Pestilence, Cynic, Atheist, Morbid Angel, and also jazz. They appeared during the dawn of the modern death metal era and feature some old school influences as well as some features that were well ahead of their time. Thanatopsis was extremely original and also under rated. They were never signed because of the vacuum that existed in the Bay Area after the end of the thrash era. But they were known to be the best of the best by their peers. This website pays tribute to them. It was created by friend Colin Davis of Vile and will be turned over to be managed by founding member and drummer Chris Stolle. Thanatopsis are currently looking for a label to release a 21 song compilation CD of all recorded material. Also a new album or re recording can be arranged for release as well.
