About Me
Hello. I'm Timia. This is my band. Since I was about 15 I've been doing this on my own, It's taken me just over four years to find a group of guys who can understand what I mean when I'm trying to describe the way my songs sound in my head, and help me make them into something other people can listen to and not just me and my ego.
Here's how it happened...in case you're interested.
I went to music school when I was 16, the ACM in Guildford, if you want to be a musician and you're good, don't go there. I thought it was rubbish. If they'd spent more time learning what my name was instead of installing sparkly toilet seats, I might feel differently but they didn't. Anyway after I walked through my exams, I uprooted from rock 'n roll Surrey and headed for Brighton, where I studied at BIMM, which when I went there, was a bitchin' school. I learnt shit loads on the course I did but unfortunatly was the youngest person on it by about 6 years, for some reason they kept the songwriters (yours truly) in a completely seperate part of the building from the 'musicians' and never mixed them. Hence, after a year I had made no friends and still had no band. On the last day of term I got drunk and gate crashed a party I'd over heard about. For some reason I had my sax with me... wierd... anyway, at said party, I quoted some Eddie Izzard in the Kitchen and this guy in a shirt that looked like it had space invaders all over it (but wasn't just, it was just a seriously "retro" pattern, by "retro" I mean 70s cat wank) finished it off. The guy was Jake. Jake mentioned he was a bass player but down from Leicster (is that how you spell it? i never know...) for this party he's tagged along to with his drummer mate, Ben. Ben had been at the same college as me for a year but I had never spoken to or met him. Anyway, long story short, Jake and Ben came to live with me in France for a month, we fell out, we sorted it out, Jake moved to Brighton with Ben, Ben met this awesome guy Gush at his second year at BIMM who fronts kick arse band 'Bottlenex' and, I don't know how, but convinced him to mission it up to shropshire with me and him for 4 days to record some tunes, even though he'd never met me or heard my stuff. But I'm glad he did. Cuz it works. We decided we were on to a good thing. It then seemed stupid not to have Jake play bass, and then thought we might as well have Noonie, my little sister, sing backing vocals considering she sounds just like me and is fucking cool. Noonie and I moved to Chichester and met this ace guy Tom in a coffee bar...(that was noonie, I stay away from coffee bars...my laugh isn't intrusive enough) Tom is front man in legendary ska band Hakuna Pesa, he gave us a gig and subsequently lent us 1/3rd of the brass section in the shape of Tom Betts...or 'The Betsonator' on Sax.
