Sound Hogg

About Me

Formed in October 2005 (it feels like yesterday) at the start of an a level popular music course, Sound Hogg quickly established themselves as a very tightly fitting group of guys and girls, with great stage prescence and sound. Skaish music was the most obvious route to go down, with the brass section and also the love of the music by the entire group. With dips into jazz and other styles of music the band progressed quickly to their first gig at the end of October, ending an performance at the tacchi morris theatre. This went down amazingly well with the audience and since then Sound Hogg have enjoyed several gigs, in a range of venues, and hope to carry on with their success through the next year.
Sound Hogg are:
Kim Johnson
Kim has been playing guitar on and off for the past six years. She has focused her talent into accompaniment and playing with the rhythm section in the school orchestra, appearing in many school concerts. During this time, Kim has developed her singer-song-writing abilities, along with recording, giving her a newfound interest in music technology.Playing with the Tim Boniface Jazz Quartet has greatly influenced Kims musical tastes and part in Sound Hogg.
Tom Regan
Tom has been playing saxophone for five and half years. He is the saxophone-playing machine and has been known to play grade 8 pieces whilst sleeping! Tom has played in numerous swing bands and the county youth concert band. Saxophone is one of the many instruments that Tom has tried his hand at; some include guitar, flute and the linoleum. Toms influences include Charlie Parker, Stan Getz and Ben Webster.
Jack McGregor
Jack is a player of the bass and drums variety, but due to drummer rivalries often leading to bloodshed, we stuck him on bass instead, incase Helen got within arm's reach. (Lots of drumming = Incredible arm strength) Jack enjoys funk and tight clothing, girls clothing is apparently more comfortable. Rumors are his ears are not quite where you'd expect them, and that he once had a funk-off that resulted in 16 missing people, their bodies were never found. All we know is he's called Penis, and he can lay down some serious bass...stuff. He also offers tours around New Look.
Elle Ashwell
What the difference between a singer and a terrorist? Answer: You can negotiate with terrorists! Elle has been singing for many years now and provides the bottom numbing, ear canal hugging, cheek vibrating vocals that you hear on stage (and off). She has a background in more acoustic music, but has taken to skanking incredibly well. In fact, she has impressed The Liam so much that he has now accepted her as part of the band, after many, many dance offs. Her hobbies consist of getting drunk, playing electronic games of chance, and getting lost. At the same time. There are rumours about her having trained with Mongolian vocalists in a small yurt, that her tongue can detach and that she has no reflection.
Helen Skeet
Helen started her drumming career in her kitchen with pans and pots at the age of 2. She moved onto the wonders of real drumming at the age of 8, and she has never looked back since. She is a grade 8 drummer, and her favourite styles are jazz and funk. Her previous performing experience involves Monochrome NYRO and school bands. Helens favourite food is her mums Spaghetti Bolognaise. Her influences include Thomas Lang, Gary Husband, Adrian Young and Jose Pasallis.
The Liam
Liam is, Liam. He has been playing guitar for 6 years, and favourite styles include Sicilian Doow Metal, and Ska. He loves dancing with Chris and growing hair. It is rumoured that he has slightly more than the average set of fingers, and he sleeps upside down. His experience with performing includes 3 friends and a Bass Player, and another Ska band, and he has ultimate stage presence, which lights up any performance in which he participates. Favourite styles are Jazz, Ska, Prog Rock and pirate folk metal. Liams influences are John Petrucci and Bill Bailey. And himself.
Steve Gossage
Steve is a werewolf, weird eh?! When its not a full moon, and/or he is not being chased by villagers with pitchforks, his favourite past time is tromboning! He's has been playing for 200 years (give or take a few years) and over that time he has increased (and decreased) in experience. Other instruments that Steve plays include guitar, cello and the floating Viagra spoon. Influences include John Petrucci and The Moon, and his favourite styles are Super Super Extreme Power Jazz, Ska, Power Metal, and Prog Rock.
