YOU AND ME!! JAZZ FACE WAR!! RIGHT NOW!! GRRRR!!

About Me

Hi! For those that can't find my site then I'm also here. I'm a vibraphonist and dulcimer player, having worked with Orphy Robinson, Pat Thomas, Nana Tsiboe, Andy Hamilton, Gary Crosby, J-Life, Robert Mitchell, Quantic Soul Orchestra and the Poets of Rhythm among others. I also compose and do educational work.
Here's one of the videos from Wirksworth [thanks to Phil Richards]!
..
I probably won't update this site often but will put up some of the electroacoustic stuff I've done. I've put instruments and process in the lyrics bit.
It's always great to hear from people, so if you're in the East Midlands [Derby/Nottingham/Leicester] area let me know!
I admit that I'm rubbish at replying to comments - I don't mean to offend anyone, but I do listen to each friend request. If you know me or want to talk about my/your work, you're much better off leaving me a message [to which I'll respond quicker].
Let me enter the world of commerce briefly:
Buy CDs from me directly. It'd be so nice if you did. But if you don't I won't be offended.
And... we're done.
This is who I'm probably going to be seeing over the next month or so [below]

Derbyshire Constabulary on "you just GET days like that [well, you just DO]"
Then there's the lovely people-like network of people that populate the Symbiosis Ensemble [some of whom did Nature's Glory, Fancy's Child , and all of whom are beautiful friends]:

...Bea Udeh, Kirstin Oliver, Mark Miller, John Morris, George Grignon, Lucy Smith, Shabaka Hutchings, Andy Maclean, Charlie Umney, Tracy Sutcliffe, Walt Shaw, Zigashane Ntalemwa, Kokumo, Janelle Xavier, Helen Martin, Laura Zobel, Caroline Eaton, Oli Matthews, Alan Jenkins, Ellen Omdal Milsom, Ling Peng, Nick Jones, Native, Josh Blackmore, Delano, Wayne Scott, Gary Morris, Cornelius Wright, Nigel Williamson, Adrian Blissett, Dave Anderson, Hammie, Mellow "Baku/Harmony" Astreivh, Jon Samworth, Alix Hoste, Kate Rounding, Paul Lawley... and on into the East/West Midlands rainforest of creatives...
And I have duos with Mr Walt Shaw , Mr Orphy Robinson , and Mr Robert Mitchell
And there's some other electroacoustic stuff too. Oh, and occasionally I drift into [and out of] other people's bands.
Influences: My main influences are few:

Orphy Robinson - the man who got me started, and has provided me with so much support and guidance Pat Thomas - another great musician who kept me carrying on when everyone else found me slightly... odd... Lewis Dyson - my first "teacher" who taught me love of music [and therefore] people Humphrey Lyttleton - my second "teacher" who taught me jazz through his radio show [but IT'S GONE. Good old BBC - shoving jazz to the graveyard] Thelonious Monk Eric Dolphy Wayne Shorter Andrew Hill Bela Bartok Lionel Hampton and I completely forgot to put down Hermeto Pascoal and Dmitri Shostakovich. Because I'm an idiot the friends and family with whom I talk endless amounts of sense and nonsense Books. Let us not forget books. Lots of them. In different sizes and thicknesses. Lovely, lovely books. I love libraries with a passion that borders on the fanatic [is the British public allowed to use that word now? Not sure if Tony's banned that one]

Then there's sound and music in general, all swarming in. It's an infinite world... as this site I think shows.

Sounds Like: A man in the first throes of marriage. I only have three sentences other than the life one [ha!], to whit: "yes, dear", "no dear", and "I’m sorry".

Only joking, it’s absolutely amazing and lovely. I do realise that I’m supposed to be "talking up the ’career’" in this bit, but there’s probably enough of that on the rest of the page.
Record Label: Yeah, right
Type of Label: None
