CHRIS WEIGERS The next wave is SKAR & B +???

About Me

cal is featured on the title track "LOOK UP" , a compositional collaboration between Vic, Shawn, and Chris. Mala Waldron gives a soulful performance of John Lennon's "IMAGINE". I had goosebumps in the studio! A great song, a reggae groove, Robben Ford's guitar... it is worth listening to a few hundred times at least. In addition, Mala sings incredible backing vocals throughout the cd. She is the harmony queen. Mala & Victor will both be doing keyboard duty in ArushA so we have quite the amazing rhythm section. Our horn players compliment the above musicians. We are happy to have Michael Amendola on tenor sax and flute. His tenor solo on "LOOK UP" combines energy and melody the way it's supposed to be done! His flute solo on "LOVE"S IN NEED..." is the perfect compliment to Vic's vocal. Tombone. We are doubly happy here. For our dates in Europe we will have Uli Binetsch, one of the finest trombone player's in Germany. He is the feautured soloist on "LIFE" and the Skatalites cover "CLEOPATRA" on "LOOK UP". When we can get him we will have Mark Paquin on trombone duties. Mark plays a great solo on "MINOR BYRD". He is a veteran of the ska scene and is currently the trombone player of record in The New York Ska/Jazz Ensemble.Come down and check out this lineup. You will not be disappointed.-----=====---------------============---------- -----------=========== Chris Weigers' cd,"HORIZONS" is also available at ---WWW.CDBABY.COM Chris is a veteran of many music environments having played with such artists as: Lothlorien, Ken Makanda McIntyre, Jaki Byard, John Abercrombie, Paula Atherton, Don Celenza, The Zen Trickster's, The Jim Pin Band, Satya, Willie Steel, New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble, and Eastern Standard Time, to name a few. The "Horizons" cd showcases many of the attributes of the above groups. It is all instrumental and allows all the musicians some room to play. The songs that are featured here on MySpace are from this recording. "Bilbao" & "Ska Espagna" feature members of NYSJE while "Boulevard East" is a collaboration with Celenza, Chris Palmaro, and Tony Beard. ---------------------------------Here is a video of ArushA live at The Knitting Factory, NY from 1/5/08.Below is a video of New York Ska Jazz Ensemble from 21 July, 2007 at Big River Festival, Dordrecht, Netherlands.

Influences: Everything. everyone, those we have not encountered and the experiences we have missed as well. Saturn is probably the greatest influence followed by the sun and moon. Every experience has an effect. In the Ska world I have been fortunate to play and tour with two great bands; The New York Ska Jazz Ensemble and Eastern Standard Time. They are quite different bands but share great music and musicians and both rock the house!!! I was also impressed with all the bands we shared the stage with, from St. Petersburg Ska/Jazz Review to all the local groups in towns like Bilbao, Bordeaux, Bologna, Bern, and Berlin. Arusha has drawn from ska and reggae artists such as The Skatalites, The Toasters, Toots and the Maytals, Delroy Wilson, Intensified, The Scofflaws, Bob Marley, etc. In the rock & soul world we checked out artists like Stevie Wonder, James Brown, The Beatles, Sly Stone, Steely Dan, Sam & Dave, The Rascals,The Meters ..... the jazz folks include Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy, Charles Mingus, John Coltrane, George Adams & Don Pullen, Duke Ellington, Weather Report, Yellowjackets, Jaco Pastorius, ... and "world" artists Baaba Maal, Fela Kuti, Ali Farka Toure, Elis Regina, Flora Purim, Zakir Hussain, Shiv Kumar Sharma, and Anoushka Shankar This is a start to an endless list.

Sounds Like: all of the above and, of course, like nothing you have heard before. What do you think?
