Indigo Colony

Last Gig 15th August!

About Me

When Indigo Colony launched themselves onto the North East England music scene from their home town of Whitley Bay in 2003 they quickly made a reputation for themselves as a band to watch. Their early limited edition album In an Hour showed that there was more to them than just a great rocking live band. Since then their music – and their audience – has developed. They quickly became – and remain – very busy indeed as a live act and firm favourites with music fans on Tyneside and beyond. Since those early days they have played in venues varying from local bars to the Carling Academy, taking in Tyneside, Wearside and Teesside and even from the top of a bus in Newcastle city centre. As their fame spread they were soon to be seen playing further afield to audiences in places like Hull, Reading and at London venues including the famous Water Rats Theatre and the Dublin Castle. They have also made several appearances on James Clark’s Northern Uproar on BBC Radio Newcastle, on Utopia fm in Sunderland and on Sky TV.Indigo Colony’s music and their appeal are based on their well-crafted original songs. From melodic indie rock to powerpop, stylish but with a sense of humour. From moving mournful songs of love and loss through to upbeat celebration of the pleasures of life.In November 2005 the band recorded a four track EP at Trinity Heights studios in Newcastle. The EP was released to critical acclaim and is still available. Since then the band has returned to the studio to record more new music, some of which can be heard on their own website and on Myspace.Indigo Colony were chosen to perform at the massive open-air Freevolution music festival on the NewcastleGateshead Quayside in May 2006, the climax of the Orange Evolution festival - the only local unsigned band to appear alongside acts like The Go! Team, Richard Hawley, and Jim Noir on the Imagination Stage in Baltic Square, Gateshead. The following September saw the release of Indigo Colony’s debut single Even a Little on Parlophone’s Regal label, bringing them their first Radio 1 airplay on Zane Lowe’s show. But really the best way to find out about Indigo Colony is to come and see them play. You won’t be disappointed.Indigo Colony are Rob Howe (guitar, vocals), Jamie Collins (lead guitar), Pip Coates (bass) and Pete Turnbull (drums).
