Date of birth: 29th of October, 1983; Murmansk, Russia. Became involved with electronic dance music in 1998 Alexey Sonar started DJing at a very young age at school parties - he was obsessed with progressive house and dropped his favourite tracks from time to time there. Once in the evening he was chilling out at home spending time tuning into various radio stations, and suddenly he heard the sound of electronic dance music which was new and fresh for him; it was the 'Club Deck' show on Power FM on air. Since that day, Alexey listened to every episode of the show and collected information about various music genres, DJs and tracks presented by the show host DJ Pump.
Sonar was impressed by progressive trance those days and excellent mixes by Nick Warren, Sasha, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules and Paul van Dyk influenced his musical taste.
Alexey visits many special parties presented by 'Club Deck' in local clubs '69', 'H2O' and 'Pilot'; "The Atmosphere of those 'Club Deck' events was very positive and inducing to dance and enjoy the music with guest stars such as DJ Fonar, DJ Groove, DJ Yanis... - their names speak for themselves", - Alexey says. After the 'Club Deck' show was shut down, he started listening to ambient and chill-out; Alex collects and compiles tracks and shares his homemade mixes with friends and thinks of small local like-'friends-only' parties - «White Room Sessions»; the main goal is to invite people from Murmansk who would like to relax, listen to soft music, interact with each other and have a great time; the parties were decorated in white (this is where the title «White Room Sessions» came from).
Alexey made his debut in 2003 on Power FM station (his guest mix in the 'Midnight Breeze' show was called 'Sky at Night').
On the 23rd of February, 2003 the very first chill-out party took place in 'H2O' club. "Sonar was the one who impressed me with his music that night; he played his pre-recorded mix in the first hour and then mixed his favourite tunes from The Phenomenology Of Ambient Freezone Part 1 (Selected Sonique Object From The Ambient Interspace) (1994) and DJ Morpheus's ones released on SSR label" (quoted from Breeze.murman.ru - Yury Maslov's personal non-commercial project).
On the 9th of March, 2003 there was an 'Electronic Marathon' with Sonar, Lazarev, Dimm and Goodwin on the decks; November and December 2003 was the time for more chillout in 'H2O'.
2004 is the turning-point for Alexey: meeting new people, new music material, travelling, changes in the way of life and new level of mixing plus DJ skills make him understand what's next.
"I'm sure that my constant passion for chill-out helped me to find my place in the world of electronic dance music".
In 2005 he starts to play progressive trance and records three promo mixes for his friends, shortly after that he makes his second (the-real-deal-one) debut in 'Pilot' club - there was music and there was movement!
Nowadays he hosts his very own dance music radio show called 'Asfalt' (the program is regularly on air since the 3rd of September, 2005). 'Asphalt' with it's unique format and exclusive content is not a regional show anymore; it was already praised by many trustworthy and competent people from radio- and media industries worldwide. Every new episode of 'Asphalt' is a new revelation!
'What is radio for you?' - you might ask.
"When I was a child, I wanted to be an engine driver, a machinist... I don't think this dream is going to come true. There are new goals and interests, but the wish to travel across the globe is still in my soul and my mind - this must be one of the reasons why I'm working on a radio station".

Alexey combines jobs at the radio and as a DJ in the nightclubs.Author's note: "Never stop, Motion is Life!"Now his radio-show has been listened to not only in Murmansk but in many Russian cities. Guest mixes of Alexey Sonar were performed in programs of Volodya Fonar (Signs), Adam White (Ministry of Sound) and many other Internet radio stations.
