There are many places in New York City that give you a vibe of reality so different than what you are used to. Whether you live here or not; take The Statue of Liberty, The Empire State building, the vacancy where the Twin Towers once stood, Yankee Stadium, and last but far from least. The Brooklyn Bridge When one walks, drives, or rides the train headed into BK over that bridge there is a vibe like no other. Instantly you feel transported to a place that just feels majestic. Brooklyn the home of Biggie and Jay, it is there, where the resurrection of music, and art come alive. Standing at 65 Sonny Carson and Starting 5 studios is perhaps the new era, and ambassador for a movement like no other. Welcome to Brooklyn. Like most kids growing up in New York, Sonny and his brother I.V. were two kids who lived hip-hop. Not just in a musical sense, but the aura that surrounded their hood, their school, home, family, and friends. Always more than music, all eras, you name it Starting 5 and Brooklyn was there. Yet like everything in time people change and so do their goals. Falling in love with Basketball, Sonny Carson envisioned himself going to the A (NBA). He gave it his all, blood, and sweat. Yet and still he retained his love for hip-hop, wherever he went he brought that New York BK vibe with him. Going to prep school and college Sonny realized many of his b-ball dreams. Although the making it to the NBA didnt happen. Sonny came back to BK, he and I.V. began making music in the basement of their home. Armed with a drum machine, computer and a keyboard the Starting 5 Production was born. With musical influences such as Gang Starr, Pete Rock n CL Smooth, and many others from the early 90s era it is safe to say S5s sound is true hip-hop. As each day went on new music was made, and the level of expectation, and experience rose. Countless hours of practice and commitment are the ritual for this Bed-Stuy production team. Learning what he needed to learned, digging into crates all the while developing and keeping the vibe of BK and hip-hop they loved. Translating that wonderment into the tracks, creating a sound scape not just for themselves, but for artists and the future of BK and hip-hop Its a purpose, like it doesnt matter what the artists is doing, just that they have something behind it.

Brooklyn NY is one of the corner stones of hip-hop music and lifestyle going back as far as I can remember which is the early eighties. The birthplace to some of the greatest MCs to ever enter the rap game. This day and age it is spread widely and diverisified not only across America, but globally.

In an effort to bring awareness to whats is going on in the borough that birthed The Notorious B.I.G, the home of Jay-Z and countless others who have placed a permanent stamp in this music industry, two producers from different parts of the borough got together to do a project.

This project was done to open the ears and eyes of people everywhere the music industry. Sonny Carson from Starting 5 production and Reefa from ATM production got in collaberation with the hottest artists that represent BKLYN and put together a Street Album (more than just a mixtape), accompanied by the DVD story of the project.

We bring you the Brooklyn Mint Mixtape/Hitmakers DVD hosted by HOT 97s own DJ Envy. Entirely Original music production from both Sonny Carson and Reefa with exclusive song features from BKs elite artists such as Fabolous, Maino, Red-Caf, Joell Ortiz, Paul Cain, Geda K, Hoodfellas, Newz, B. Judah and many more!!! The DVD portion of the project takes you behind the scenes in the making of the songs and the project with scenes from many of the artists on the project including special guest appearances from Kanye West, and Junior Mafia (Lil Cease)
