"Welcome To The Real World!"

About Me

Welcome to the Official GUN Myspace Page. here is a brief history of the band - GUN were formed in 1986 in Glasgow. In June of 1987 the band signed a recording contract with A&M Records. After writing and rehearsing new material, the band hit Park Lane Studio in Glasgow and recorded their first offering to the world of Rock Music. This album, Taking On The World, was released in 1989 to great acclaim from rock fans in the UK and Europe. The band toured with this material throughout the USA, the UK and Europe, playing on the same bill as such Rock Giants as the Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden and many more. Over the next few years, they recorded three more records, Gallus, Swagger and 0141 . . . . . But, sadly, the band split in 1997 after their final show in September of that year at the Barrowlands in Glasgow and only played on the same stage again for a couple of Charity events, their last outing being at the SECC in Glasgow in 1999. Since then, the lads have gone on to other projects, not least Scottish Pop/Funk outfit EL PRESIDENTE. However, in November of 2007 the band were given an award by the Scottish music therapy charity, Nordorff Robbins, for their contribution to Scottish music. They were asked to play at the Rock Radio Scotland 96.3FM First Birhtday Bash, in association with the Nordorff Robbins group. Founder members Jools and Dante Gizzi recruited original drummer Alan Thornton to play with the lads again and the ball was rolling. Unfortunately, singer Mark Rankin sadly had to decline the offer to play with the band due to heavy commitments elsewhere in the music industry, so the boys employed the services of ex Little Angels frontman Toby Jepson. On January 10th 2008, the lads took to the stage in the Garage, Glasgow as headlining act and played to a thunderous reception, helping raise over £10,000 for the Nordorff Robbins Charity. The reception the band received that night has persuaded them to go on with the same line-up. They were asked to play alongside Bad Company at the launch party for Rock Radio Manchester 106.1FM on May 5th 2008 and, in front of a 3500 strong crowd, played only their 2nd gig in over10 years, again to a huge reception. 2009 is the 20th anniversary of their first album and the boys plan to celebrate with more live shows and possibly some new recorded material. So watch this space . . . . . .
