About Me

ENGLISH
Before his intergenerational collaboration, the up-and-coming multicultural artist Mitch.L was formerly more interested in the artist formerly known as Prince.
He liked listening to Michael Jackson, too, but there was not much available beyond that. He once met the French blues hero Memphis Slim. "He was such a very big man," is about all that he remembers. Now he has grown to be the sum of more than one tradition. But as a child growing up in Paris he was cut off from African-American trends. His father Clyde Wright is American and a world famous gospel singer, leader and tenor of the legendary Golden Gate Quartet; his mother is German, and his grandmother was a classical piano teacher.
While attending a Parisian lycée, Mitch.L began to play around with making music. At 14, his teeth were not strong enough to blow a saxophone, so he switched to guitar. His father, Clyde Wright "sort of pushed" his son into the classical conservatory. Actually, the young guitar student loved to play classical music. Young Mitch's classical guitar teacher once gave him a little folk-blues piece to learn, and one day his father overheard him jamming with a funk group.
Mitch.L began collaborating with his father on Gospel productions and would work late at night to make sure he got the arrangements just right. He was studying arranging at the American School of Modern Music in Paris. This was good on-the-job training. Clyde Wright & the Gospel Caravan Trio performed on stage together for the first time as part of a Radio France annual series. As its musical director and singer, arranger and guitarist, Mitch conducted the rehearsals. The ensemble went on an international tour and performed at important music festivals around the world (Fort de France, Martinique; Montreux, Switzerland; Andorra, France; Salzburg, Germany). Mitch.L also collaborated with his father for the acclaimed "Gospel Symphonique tour", an original production blending Gospel choir and a Synphony Orchestra. ''I have different musical sides,'' said Mitch.L before performing as part of the sixth annual international gospel festival in Paris. ''But gospel will always be the first one, the roots one. I'll always carry that with me no matter what. I've discovered a real important part of myself.''
Then, influenced by artists such as Prince, Dangelo, Donny Hattaway, ou Stevie Wonder Mitch.L started expanding his own repertoire focusing on Soul music. He writes and composes his music in French, English and German, and self-produces most of his songs. Performing on numerous Parisian stages, he soon gets noticed and is asked to license his songs for several compilations such as Autoprod RNB & NU SOUL vol 1 produced by French mega-retailer FNAC, et ON THE MIX produced by DJs from Radio Génération, Franco et Narcisse.
Multi-instrumentalist, Mitch.L is regularly performing in Paris at the Rim Shot Party , Generation Soul, Sunday School and Sunday Brunch at the House of Live.
This past July, he also opened for Raphaël Saadiq (Tony!Toni!toné!, Lucy Pearl) at the Elysée Montmartre in Paris.
