It all started at the stage of what Grandma reffered to as 'below grass root' with a simple box guitar. In 1981 in the town of Mandeville a small district called Bonitto Cresent lived this humble, understanding, hardworking being, who vision and knew that music could be the staff of many lives. This visioneer that has been mention is Mr. Barrington Williamson a.k.a. Jah B founder of the STEP BY STEP BAND. The name Step By Step derives from perseverance, dedication, strong belief in the almighty and of course positive thinking. To many people it's hard to believe that a band could contain only a simple box guitar but bit by bit or as the name says step by step everything began to fall in place. After noticing that he has almost everything a band required he realise that he was going to need players for each instrument, so families and friends from the community saw that he was doing a great deed, Barrinton started playing the guitar and Mark {Mr. Barrington's cousin} and Chester {uncle} played the drums, they started doing their little jamms etc, in the community and people were loving it. Not long after, Jah B's two sons Steve and Kevin Williamson who were still attending school found an interest in what their father was doing and so at a tender age of fourteen [14] and fifteen [15] became victim of music, so they started playing at school concerts, jammins shop corners, in churches, any and everywhere suitable. Becaues of all these small exposures and experiences they now accept the fact that this is it, music is what they definitly needed to pursue as their career.'Step By Step' is the name but there was a big jump in 1994 in their home town Mandeville, when they were to be the backing band with artist like General Trees, Lady Mackerel, President Brown, and the Demus family. Since then the band started doing JCDC Concerts, Road Show, Funtions etc, it was more success for the band or should i say more steps. In 1999 the band made their first international break-though when they went to Canada on a two month tour with artist Frankey Wilmot doing shows like: Caribbean Festivals, Club and Street Shows, they played at the Bamboo main club in Toronto, the Panama Games and it goes on. Coming back to Jamaica was more steps in 2000; a member of the band was at a particular show and saw this stalwarh Christine Hewitt. We linked up together with the band started playing for her on the side, doing teen splash playing at hotels but stop playing for her after awhile, later we were getting to know a variety of artist who recognized the band and its potential on a wider scale. We then spend two years with flames production performing both locally and internationally. The band leader Kevin Williamson (bassie) son of the founder Barrington a next stalwah would keep the link with the artiste because the more artistes they knew the more shows they had to perform. This biography gives both information and activities that can assist other musicians in understanding and believing that they can achieve their goals, no matter what the circumstances are, whether they are great or small. Having a band does not necessarily mean that you have to start out with everything. As experienced musicians, we now have equipments to advance ourselves as we work together as a group and also as individuals in acquiring knowledge musically through worldwide research. It has now been shown that with Mr.Barrington Williamson's hard work, Step By Step Band will be beneficial both locally and internationally. Music can be easy to teach, easy to learn and is designed to broaden musicians' scope of playing as we explore the fascinating world of music.
