Stain is a 24 year old emcee/writer from Newcastle. Combining intense poetry with hard-hitting, melodic beats to create a truly unique Hip-Hop experience. Eight years of writing and recording in various guises and groups has firmly established Stain as one of the leading lights of creativity and originality in the North East.
A long-time member of local leftfield act The Red Shift with respected producer/DJ Sleepyhead, Stain struck out on his own in 2005 with a barrage of tracks and collaborations, culminating in the highly acclaimed 2006 online EP 'Grid Movement'. A well recieved record which is as much a sign of diversity in the local scene as it is a staunchly original mix of haunting beats, intense lyrics and technical showmanship.
A veteran on the local live circuit, Stain has played every regional promotion. Sharing the stage with all of the North East pioneers including Stig of the Dump (Dented Records), Absorb (Demon Angels) and the Text Offenders, as well being a popular fixture at Metal and Punk gigs. The need to increase awareness has seen Stain perform at events nationwide, including a guest spot with Iration Steppa's at the Leeds Unity Festival and a Leicester support slot with NGU Records frontman Dap-C.
Stain brings an intriguing mix of influences to the fold, ranging from the obvious scattergun flows and wordplay of alt.Hip-Hop acts such as Sole and El-P through to the style and ear for melody of acts such as Cypress Hill and Everlast, ending up at the power and drama of metal acts such as the Deftones and Glassjaw. Always learning from peers locally and nationally keeps Stain constantly forward thinking, looking to progress without taking away the core style of his sound.
2007 heralded the perfect time to take the music to the next level. Hooking up with Midlands based producer Krowbar, Stain set about laying the foundations for his next long player. A growing interest in politics and opposition to the current governments antics at home and abroad gave the base of the writing, and fitted perfectly with Krowbars brand of Cinematic, bass-driven scores. So, 'Through Crosshair Eyes' was born, an intelligently written, thought provoking collection of songs, a deep seeded anger delivered with an almost breathless intensity.
