KILLING FOR CULTURE

About Me

As a band, the image that 13 Candles projects, is one of Romanticism...of Vampirism... and of a dark gothic beauty that appeals to not only the goth scene, but also the Vampyre scene. The bleak, black-clad effigys of these two worlds fully appreciate the elegant atmospheric vein that runs deeply through 13 Candles' songs. Through their music 13 Candles have forged an alliance with all that is dark and forbidden.... with the shadowed, secrect places that each and every one of us keep hidden deep inside. 13 Candles have carried the gothic sound into a new dimension by assuming the role of musical alchemists; skilfully blending aggressive elements of the newly emerging Black Metal Crossover scene with the more sanguinary delights of the realm of the Vampire... 13 Candles' association with the Whitby Dracula society has brought them much media attention; appearances on celluloid have been frequent and numerous; television has spread the gospel of 13 Candles far and wide. In dark crypts the worls over the black-clad children listen.. To see the band live is an experience that you will never forget; the image... the atmosphere... the haunting sounds of Gothic lamentations. Their music truly is an elegy for the undead. Band History The band was born in 1992; 13 Candles was a demonic embryo, and an ever-changing child, but it has now matured into a majestic creature of the night... There are those of us who consider ourselves truly black - hearted beasts; there are those of us who really do romance the night; there are those of us who have the capacity to hold up a mirror to our faces and like the darknes we see reflected there. 13 Candles debut album was released on 13th November 1995, entitled "Come Out Of The Dark" a plea to all those who linger in the shadows and hunger for the prescious aural pleasures that the band have to offer... For the follow up album "Angles Of Mourning Silence" we saw the band move away from their Gothic Rock sound to a more Darker shade of Gothic Black Industrial Metal. The first and last with London based Cacophonous Records, who most of you will know for the first two Cradle Of Filth albums. It was while support Cradle Of Filth on their "Dusk And Embrace Tour " in 1996 that the band were asked to sign to Cacophonous. Then in 1997 the band released there stunning "Angels Of Mourning Silence" a short UK two was to follow being the last for frontman Louis Holloway. After a short break the returned in 1998 with there first drummer in the form of Pauly Mackey and new vocalist Danny J Finch. The Band toured the UK with a new sound and style, which gained the band many new fans, later that year the band once again entered Academy Studios and recorded the "Killing For Culture" EP which would see as its release until 2003 via Danny J`s own label Def2Music. The band would soon lose Pauly and a new drummer was found in the form of Dan Theobald. more touring followed and with management and label problems and band would call it a day pursuing other projects including, The Realm, Heathen Deity, Shadows sphere, Twisted Autumn Darkness & Know Your Enemy. In 2003 Danny J started up his own label releasing some of his current project that he was working on, and this including 1998`s "Killing For Culture" Ep which until now had been left on DAT tape in Justins Draculs draw. The EP recived great reviews including a number one download spot for two months on Peoplesound.com. Guitarist marc hoyland & orignal vocalist louise holloway reformed for a one off show at the Carnival of Souls Festival in Derby. Danny & Justin are currently working on a new porject called the fields of iaru. www.myspace.com/fieldsofiaru
