Hailing from Southern California, Abita (named after their favorite New Orleans brew and now sponsored by that brew) is an Alt Metal group that clashes screams, shred guitar and progressive heavy drums with melodic choruses all delivered in 3-4 minute long catchy song writing. There's Johnny (Vox Guitar), Jenny (Drums), Fee (Bass). Johnny and Jenny surface from 'RD (Rubber Dukky)'- an Orange County Rock Band best known locally for their 1998 release 'Hand Solo' and in 2003 soundtrack support for the movie 'In Your Face (Renamed Splat)' with the song 'Blue Bus' (off of their 'No More Time For Drama' indie release). Fee shows up as the Bassman after his time spent with local metal band 'Boracho, as a bass player as well as touring with ex Anthrax vocalist Niel Turbin's band; Deathriders. . The music is heavy while not being too progressive or one-tracked. The apparent intent with 'Abita' is to deliver an experience that is reveling; easy to remember while being hard to forget with an arsen of a simple/not so simple musicianship that doesn't stray into the unknown whilst one selected track plays for 12 minutes. The tunes are no longer than 4:30- they are catchy and laced with talent. Some could argue the guitar riffage/soloing works here like it did in the late 70's or early 80's; rivaling those who came out of that genre noted as "shredders", but without getting away from the modern egde 'Abita' intends or being (worse yet); "dated". Heavy yet sweet.
