"Red Vinyl Fur are still the best all girl band in existence. In fact they're still one of the best bands in Manchester full stop. It's astonishing, when you think about it, that all-female bands are still in such a minority. There's nothing girly (or even grrrl-y) about Red Vinyl Fur musically though; they just play rock'n'roll, indie-punk-abrasive rock'n'roll, faintly sleazy around the edges and full-powered and assertive without being aggressive. This band should be playing to packed-out sweaty moshpits. Fuck it, this band should be signed."
18/11/07 - Cath Aubergine, Manchestermusic.co.uk.
"A fine cocktail of riot fuelled rock and roll, buzzing with frenetic post punk
short circuited distortions - and three minute pop songs. The guitar crams the
set with twangy riffs set loose to freely burrow into your head, whilst big
basslines and snappy drums provide the perfect background. The end result has
the infectious floating power of Pauline Murray's Penetration betwixt mountains
of ideas and concise rattling hooklines."
So said Jon Ashley of ManchesterMusic.co.uk after watching four women rip through
a crowd's preconceptions about girl bands being all sweetness and light.
But this is not 1977. This is Red Vinyl Fur, taking the energy and spirit of
the greatest female punk rock revolutionaries and firing it squarely into the
21st century. Drummer Nadene and bassist Sue prove you don't need testosterone
to build a powerful rhythm engine. Polished spikes and streams of distortion
come courtesy of Kara, already renowned as one of Manchester's most inventive
guitarists.
They spent a couple of years experimenting with line-ups, tightening their
live sound and gathering fans from Manchester, London (and everywhere in between)
to as far as West Coast of America.
They supported the likes of Babes In Toyland and TV on the Radio, along the way,
when the band chanced upon vocalist Chelle working behind the bar of one of
Manchester's more prolific music venues, singing along to the sounds from the stage.
It was a voice too powerful to stay on the wrong side of the monitors for too long, and Red
Vinyl Fur were complete. Appearances with The Duke Spirit, The Enemy and at Manchester's
renowned High Voltage night soon followed."It's a big surprise that Manchester hasn't mustered up more all female line-
ups - Red Vinyl Fur capture the moment and hurl it further than most other
bands, even on a circuit that boasts more have-a-go axe heroes than ever
before. Boys - Beware."
