We can also be reached & listened to online at www.chly.ca'The Fix' started out with John's love for both a fascination of late night radio and of course, hip-hop music. John's first experience with Canadian hip-hop blended with radio, came from popular radio broadcaster Lauren Burrows, who at that time was working for Vancouver's Planet AAJ Radio, 96.1fm. She now works for CBC Radio 3, but her knowledge and willingness to promote and showcase Canadian emcees, producers and dj's inspired John to do the same for his community.Through the advice and helpful connections from Lauren Burrows, John Z. connected with Nanaimo's only non-profit, community based radio station, CHLY 101.7fm. John Z. began hosting and dj'ing at 'The Fix' completely solo for the first 4 – 5 months. After that time, John hooked up with long time friend DJ Steelos for added assistance with engineering the show. Steelo's had already had an extensive background in the local music scene with his production and recording work for many of Nanaimo's up & coming emcee's.With the charisma and on-air originality of host John Z., combined with the technical wit and trained ears of DJ Steelos, 'The Fix' had become a show not to be missed or slept on.John Z. & DJ Steelos have a strong passion and understanding of hip-hop's roots and work hard every single week at never letting the public down. When listening to 'The Fix', it goes without saying that John Z. & DJ Steelos have close ties to their local communities. From emcees to dj's, to promoters and producers, 'The Fix' takes great pride in promoting and showcasing B.C. & Canadian talent.'The Fix' gives artists a place to promote themselves and their talents without the requirement of the major label push behind them. However with that being said, 'The Fix' supports hip-hop music in general! Whether it be commercial/mainstream or on a underground level.
