Butter is a new Tech-Funk night held at BarXS in Fallowfield, Manchester every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. It plays host to the best and most underground Techno, Breaks and Electro.
Butter was set up by North-west based DJs / producers, Steve Maccabe & James Jackson (Sequential), who were bought together by the love of the newly emerging tech-funk sound and the distinct lack of nights around the north-west dedicated to the genre.

RESIDENT DJ BIO'S

STEVE MACCABE (NSB Radio / Tech-Funk Sessions / Cadence / RecHord)Steve Maccabe is a Huddersfield, Loughborough, Manchester & London based Tech/Breaks DJ & Producer.
Although only being 25yrs old, he has a long history in electronic music production, dating back to the summer of 1999.
Since coming to the fore as a DJ in 2003 he has been approached by some of the worlds best radio presenters and shows requesting guest mixes. BBC Radio One, Nu-Skool Breaks, Ibreaks, Codex Radio, Proton Radio and The Peter Nelson Show are some of the names in the long list of shows and stations on which his mixes and tracks have been aired, Steve also hosts the Tech-Funk Sessions on the multi-award winning Nu-Skool Breaks radio (the official best breakbeat radio station in the world) every 1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month at 5pm.
Steve gained a lot of popularity in 2006 with his unique 'Tech-Funk' style DJ sets, combining Acid & Techno with Breakbeats, whilst intergrating laptops into his sets, giving him the ability to change arrangements and remix tracks live. He has headlined top nights all over Europe and performed alongside elite producers & DJs such as, Krafty Kuts, Rennie Pilgrem, Backdraft, Porno Breaks, I.D, Unbalenced Jack, Peter Hook, BLIM, Groove Diggerz, Steve Thorpe, Seph One and the Spectrum residents. Steve is also strongly recognised as a talented producer, receiving rave reviews following the release of his Bootleg remixes of Missy Elliott, Phuture and Claude VonStroke, which have been hammered by the likes of Diverted, Mr No Hands, Bassbin Twins, Capoeria Twins, Seph One and Myagi over the course of the past 12 months.
2008 Promises to be another successful year for Steve, he is currently working hard in the studio on new tracks and has new releases coming on his label 'Bootylicious' including a compilation CD scheduled for release in the first part of the year.
SEQUENTIAL (Alibi Vinyl / Sold Records / Thick Ear Records)Back in the 90s, performing live in and around (then) home town of Huddersfield, Sequential (DJ / Producer James Jackson) and co-writer / local DJ Steve Jones quickly amassed a large following and gained an enviable local reputation for instantly catchy, highly danceable tunes that filled dance floors to capacity.
Ever eager to develop his craft, it wasn't long before James left his small Yorkshire hometown behind and headed down to London to study Electronic Music. 3 years later, he graduated with a First Class with Honours, winning the University Prize for Outstanding Achievement. Soon after, James began working with Ed Kelly, a.k.a. Lone Shark (Pyramid Transmissions) - the duo were at that time known as The Red Shelter.
In 2002, despite his success, James still felt uncertain about his artistic direction and decided to take a break from music. It was only in 2006 that he finally found the Tech Funk sound he’d been looking for.
From a studio standpoint it wasn't a million miles away from what James had been working on in previous years, largely experimental music, pushing the envelope. James’ previous studio experience will stand him in good stead, but he now has new ideas of his own and a new direction in music.
He has just signed his debut single, "I Feel So Good" to Alibi Vinyl and has recently finished working with DNA Orchestra (Azuli Records) on a remix project, which is out now on Sold Records. And with plays from the likes of Jason Sparks, Precision Cuts and B-Phreak, 2008 looks like it will be a good year for Sequential.
All Sequential's music is available from www.beatport.com and other quality online music stores.
What the Big Names Are Saying
  • At last something different, catchy & deep minimal pop, I like the colour of vocal, also remixes are cool I like both, clever, radio friendly...good for me. (Josef Sedlon - Radio 1 Prague)
  • DNA Orchestra (Sequential mix) is tasty ;) good solid production, right for deeper dancefloors (Drummatic Twins)
  • Nice track, Awesome heavy bass, like the vocals too. (Lisa Lashes)
  • Was sent this a few months back and have been diggin it ever since! (Jem Haynes - Precision Cuts)
  • Great vocal! Very Haunting track with all kinds off electro filth. I'm digging it. (Scott Kirkland - The Crystal Method / Indie 103.1 FM)
  • I really like this. It kinda sounds like a whole bunch of bands that I can't seem to place, whilst not actually sounding like any of them. It is great and understated but just seems to wash through you. (Nick Thayer - BreakingPoint / Triple RRR Radio / Impress)
