Co-Founder of ‘www.emusu.com’ an online digital distribution company that specialise in bespoke download shops for record labels, bands and artists.Collaborated on some of Digital Animal‘s (www.digitalanimal.co.uk) release’s, namely “Aqua Plain and "Disintegration”. Emusu has been trading for nearly two years and was born out a desire for my partner Chris, and writing partner Richard Crofts to put their stuff out. Digital Animal www.digitalanimal.com had ambitions to be an on-line label but we quickly realised that if we wanted to sell our music online and do it properly we needed to raise serious investment.We needed to be MCPS/PRS and chart registered and needed to integrate a eCommerce platform that could cope with micro payments, we also needed to develop a robust back end and factor Hosting/Bandwidth costs, and figure out how we were going to keep the site updated without having to keep bugging web design friends who were all overly committed in terms of their own projects. With the cost stacking up, and the reality that Digital Animal were not most commercial outfit, insecurity set in. It quickly became apparent that there were loads of people out there in the same boat, and this could be a real "killer" application {bar Porn ?} that really empowered artists and label’s – so we devised a business plan (well err Chris did) spoke to some suits who gave us some investment and off to Midem (Annual World Music Trade Fair) and Popkomm we merrily went…18 months on this business has evolved considerably, our core proposition; bespoke download shops has proved popular with independent labels, though we still do stores for artists and bands, the majority of our customers are labels which has happened really through word of mouth.
