About Me

MyGen Profile GeneratorRich's interest in house music started through going to a number of Big Audio Dynamite gigs in the 80's. Their innovative guests and use of samples struck a chord, and one night out in Leeds he found himself in the club Kaos after one of his posse had been refused entry to The Warehouse. He immediately fell for the early house tunes and, after subsequent visits to the first Orbit parties, his fate was sealed. He first got into djing on the insistence of his mate Ash Robbo (Depth Charge and Warp record store assistant) and soon found himself spinning on FTP - York's famed pirate radio station. Soon he was playing at various parties around York, including some late night sessions at Finsbury Park Studios, where he first met the people with whom he would later work at Melt Records. By now his record collection was beginning to reach epic proportions, and his obvious skills becoming recognised. A residency at Normal brought gigs in Edinburgh and York, providing support for Colin Dale, Eddie Richards, Terry Francis and Dave Angel, as well as holding down the back room with Scotland's finest Murray Richardson. By this time, he felt York was in need of a quality night of House, the music to which his soul was rooted. Freakin was born, attracting consistently inspiring guests and an always up-for-it crowd to Yorks Arts Centre. Producing was the next progression. Hooking up with local funk guitar maestro Bobby Willo he formed Fat Coda, laying down some seriously funky house grooves. With Tim Wrights guidance and engineering skills, Fat Coda became stalwarts on the newly formed Melt Records, and to date have recorded three EPs to wide acclaim, including plays from Laurent Garnier and Ralph Lawson. This led to dj bookings all over the country, and a mini-tour of L.A. Rich revamped Freakin in 2003 and brought on board a hand full of close friends that he has work with a lot in the past, the out come has been an ever growing number of free partys and club events still using inspiring guests including (Chris Duckenfield, Murray Richardson, Inland Knights, Tim Wright, Vector Lovers, Paul Woolford, Cosmic Groove Transmission). Freakin has now got their very own Internet radio station, which broadcasts a live show every weeknight playing all styles of music.
