Music has been a constant theme in my life despite having absolutely zero musical talents or inclinations.
The first true revelation came when I slipped Led Zeppelin 4 onto an old box record player in my teens and out crackled a sound that awoke me inside and began a life with an ever changing soundtrack. Zep led me to rock and metal. Aerosmith , Sabbath , Priest, Moterhead and bizarrely to Folk through Jimmy Pages collaboration with Roy Harper and the hair started to grow .
Then the world turned alternative and I went Crusty. Ever the eclectic I listened to Punk, Goth, Spacerock. Most of all I listened to New Model Army and The Levellers, who fuelled the fire of revolt and began the search for my own way of life. The hair stopped getting washed and started to braid, plait and have a tendency to have things hanging from it.
Next came Reggae/Dub ( misty , burning spear, prince fari, gladiators, roots music), and anything linked to British Festivals primarily Megadog. Followed the Ozric Tentacles and Zion Train around for a few years. First discovered Psytrance (eat static, hallucinogen, flying rhino, tip , dragonfly, goa trance) as dance music exploded across the land but wasn’t into rave . The dancing feet had began to move however and a romance was blossoming. The hair just grew on my head, got tied back in the morning and was generally a mess.
Eclipse begins with an E. Cornwall 1999 travelled down for a festival ended up at a free party. Welcomed and looked after by the Pendragon People. Danced until the sun rose and was then eclipsed by the moon above the stone circle. As the light returned a party person was born. One love and unity, the tribal spirit, the beat of the heart, the drum, the earth as one. The love affair had begun. Became a clubber and partied at local parties or set off on big sometimes several day missions to London. Inspired by Pendragon got into Lab 4 , Proteus , Dynamic Intervention , Max Alien , Madame Zu the list is endless. Love it hard , fast , uplifting and sexual. Actually started washing my hair before I went out!!
Still listen to all of the above but more involved in partying with the psytrance crowd these days and still like it with a trance edge and am quite retro in tastes. Like Transient Records , Phantasm , Blue room etc at home but love the harder full on side live as hard dance and psy merges. Can even be found in chill out rooms these days!! And the hair….well its starting to fall out ;)
