..............One of my earliest memories of being totally enamored with music is listening to David Gilmour's guitar solo in "Time" in my Dad's Thunderbird on the way to Kindergarten. I was 5 or something and knew that I HAD to play the guitar. But, when I got one for Christmas, it didn't take. :) I was still a passionate little listener, though. :) It wasn't until I was 12 when I was at a musical instrument petting zoo thing that I saw a cello and fell in love with it. My Mom and Dad then got me a musical instrument once again and it stuck this time--been playing the cello ever since and I still LOVE it. The cello took me to any other instrument I could get my hands on, including to the guitar, again...and then at a great surprise to me, singing.I’ve grown up on the classics like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin; Emerson, Lake, & Palmer; James Taylor (and Brown:), etc, and all the classical geniuses—Bach, etc—they’ve all really helped shape me as a musician. And then came along in my life new absolute geniuses like my beloved Radiohead and Björk (the Vespertine album, especially) and “trip-hop†bands like Portishead—I can’t NOT want to write and be a part of musical creation when I listen to any of these great minds. (is Radiohead the greatest of these minds? Hmm… :)On a very personal note, my life as a musician is very much dependent on one aspect of my life: my Faith. Faith, and having it--Faith in the small, still Voice that calls me daily to music and in turn, to have faith in my calling--no matter what I may hear or even tell MYSELF during those moments of shadowed coldness that seems to sweep down upon us from time to time. It is then when I remember Whom is supporting me and that "Do not worry" is more than a light suggestion--it's an order and one FINE luxury that is forgotten far too easily. That's when the dark, terrible chill around me is consumed by the most unfathomably comforting Light, Who bathes me in Encouragement and thus keeping me on "The Narrow" road ahead: paved in gold, aligned by stars...According to my Faith, be it unto me.........................Cheers and God Bless-----Jason.
