Conquistador

Tongue in chic with a lot of cheek.

About Me

In a far off glamosphere of glitter-soul, funk'n'roll, somewhere between Al Stewart, David Bowie and Funkadelic, skates the dandy-disco-roller-rocker. He has looks of Zappa, the suave of Gainsbourg, the feet of James Brown and dress, words and a way, all his own. This is Conquistador: tongue in chic with a lot of tongue.
Conquistador unique and definitive sound emerged when artist, designer and DJ, Alexander Antebi and Brian Kehew, author of Recording The Beatles, keyboard player for The Who, half of the Moog Cookbook and producer of Fiona Apple's 2005 record Extraordinary Machine got together and started experimenting with everything from Earth, Wind and Fire's old tape machine and Larry Graham's custom bass amp to Mellotrons, Chamberlins and famously customized analogue synthesizers. Soon, it evolved from a two-man operation into a big collaboration featuring members of The Who, Moog Cookbook, Kinky, Vhs Or Beta, Banda Uniao Black and Nefertiti.
This auditory supernova is a tasteful figment of the future past. You may recognize his voice or dance moves from Latin-super-group Kinky's 2007 "Sister Twisted" single or "Reina" tour. Time Out Magazine New York described Conquistador as "Candy-land-strip-mall-jet-set-executive-super-soul-seventie s." "Conquistador luxuriates prolific-dance-floor-debonair-disco inciting people to move their feet all across the Continental U.S."
One of their recent collaborations was recording a new version of "Little Boxes," the theme song for the acclaimed Showtime Original Weeds. This version is expected to air next season on one of the new season's episodes.
Never one to shy away from a special, if not odd, honor for his personal style, Antebi accepted an exclusive invitation be one of fifty members of Beard Team USA to compete in the 2007 World Beard and Mustache Championships in Brighton, England. Representing the U.S. in the "Imperial Moustache" (that's the handle bar moustache in layman's terms), Antebi is one of the youngest competitors in this globally covered event.
Joined by fellow artists and musicians: Jason Marcus, Scott Halper and Martin Silva and beneath the high gloss veneer of Conquistador's armada of t-rextasy, they lift off from solid ground. On August 25, 2007, Conquistador offers a gift of their bounty of roller-boogie-funk-rockology. Their E.P., Royal Fifth, will be available in the United States, Europe, Asia and the South Pacific exclusively online at iTunes, Napster, E-music, Rhapsody, Myspace, Connect and Music.com to name a few. Global release is scheduled for late September/early October 2007. A limited edition E.P. with live bonus tracks, videos and other goodies is scheduled for October 2007.
