About Me
THE HISTORY BEHIND TORCHURE THE DON
THE BIOGRAPHY:
Where were you born?
I was born in Chicago, ILL. On October 10th in Columbus hospital on a Wednesday at 10:30 am. I was born a Cook County SouthSider. I don't remember much of it but just that my 1st younger brother was also born there. That's all I can remember about the windy city.
Where are you originally from?
I am originally from Newark (Brick City) which is the heart of New Jersey. I was raised up in the streets of North Newark and graduated from Barringer high school in Jersey.
What is your national background?
I am Puerto Rican and Italian. My grandparents on my father side are from Ponce PuertoRico. My grandparents on my mother side are from Palermo and Sicily Italy. What’s crazy is that my mother is Italian but she was born in Rio De Genero Brazil. I am Branded.
What was life like for you growing up?
My mother was a very poor immigrant from Rio De Genero who came to America seeking the American dream. My dad was a stranger from Ponce PuertoRico whom my mom tells me, she fell in love with but, he gave her 800.00 dollars to abort me. My mother was very unfortunate but strong. She came to America with a dream and a destiny and I believe that destiny is me. I was born through what some would call prostitution but I'd like to think of it as a force beyond will. My stepfather who has just passed on 5/17/2006 also went through some unfortunate things in his life that would later have an impact on my life. He was raised in a German Military on a German Military base and was abused by his father. After my 1st younger brother was born we moved to Newark, N.J. and I was approximately 2 yrs old. I remember being so poor that my mother would steal shopping carts of food to feed us. My stepfather was really sick after his life in the military and he became a drunk and an abusive father, forcing his kids to do things unheard of and unimaginable. I won't go into all the details but, I will tell you this, “I inherited anger so unbearable that I could still to this day taste the fury of blood on my tongueâ€. I plan will write a book on my life. At the age of 5 my brothers and sisters and I were taken away from each other and separated into the system due to mental and physical abuse and neglect (there are 7 of us). I don’t know what it’s like to have a mother or a father growing up. If you could only imagine the anger and anguish that I have been through. I have been to over 22 foster homes, shelters and boy detention centers from NJ to upstate NY throughout 13 teen years of my childhood. I was finally placed in a home in North Newark NJ at the age of 11 and grew up under tough love. By the time I was 18 I was a known G that earned a place in my hood with great respect. I was involved with one of the most notorious drug lords on the east coast and we ran an unstoppable organization of heroin and cocaine movements. My name was Lil Mikey on the block. My big homie Big Mikey brought me under his wing along with Ki Ke, Alan, Big Joe, Glen, Bam Bam, Chollo, Adam, Jose, Tilo, Ray, and man I could keep going. We were the dream team. I been down a tough alley and I owe my heart to my homies Keith Harrison and Terrance Johnson God rest his soul. R.I.P. Tasheed. I also owe love to my cousin Artie who paved the way and forced me to be a G. I also owe mad Love to all my homies from North Newark's 80's & 90's crew, from Highland vice Posse, 5th street G’z, Grafton Ave. G’z, Broadway G’z, to My Hood A.k.A the Arlington Boys off of Summer Ave. in north Newark. Shit was real in the field. I fought my way to gain respect, I had homies die in my arms, I been stabbed, robbed, shot at, almost beat to death but, I also did my dirt in my time (The Law of Karma's A Bitch!). I have many dark secrets, some of which I may never come forward with and I have been fortunate to survive it all. I can go down a list of my homies who didn't make it. I was forced to see shrinks from the age of 11 to 18. The court files states that I was an emotionally disturbed child and that I needed help. "What da f***ck did they expect? By the time I was 19 and almost lost my life, I decided to go back to my mother’s neighborhood and suddenly got married. This became the next chapter of my life and I continued to do the hood survival thing until my 1st born. My story is more graphic than what is in writing here. When my book is finished it will touch the world. I am the prodical son, the chosen one, the angel sent from heaven. I am the mission that will be completed in this lifetime.
How did music become a part of your life?
I started writing poetry in 1987 to explore my inner anger. I continued to grow hungry for the music biz and writing became my passion. After 2 Pac's death it became more intense and I finally sought out a music career in 1996. 2 Pacs life reminded me of mine; growing up with no direction (2Pac was my Idle). In 1998 I formed a group called Inmates II Society and I haven’t stopped since. I was forced into many decisions during my voyage to succeed and I am still breathing thanks to god. I now own my record company which is filed with the Corporations Commission. The name of this Label is INMATE ENTERTAINMENT LLC. Also D.B.A. INMATE RECORDS. I am very fortunate and blessed and I plan to touch the world with my story but until then I will Keep God First B-4 all things and I pray I don’t fail!
How did Torchure Da Don come about?
Torchure represents my life in a misspelled way. If I were to give details of the horrible things I went through and brought it to life in Images, you would then understand why my name is Torchure. Da Don Part comes from a blessing that god has instilled in my life. Most of us know that a Don represents leadership. Most of us define it as organized crime aka as The Mob. For me it represent how people are drawn to me because of my ora. I am different than most. I hold a spiritual energy that draws people to me. I have never snaked no one that didn’t have it coming to them. I never been in prison and never betrayed my loyalties to no one. I am a friend to my friends. And if you knew half of what I been involved in, you would say “how the hell did you survive to talk aboutâ€. And I’d say GOD. I am a Don of my own making. I encourage, push, guide, and set the ultimate example for everyone that is around me. And they love and respect me for it because; I am the realest loyal friend you could ever have. Just ask those who know me from the streets of Brick City to the streets of Arizona.
(AND NOW U KNOW WHY MY NAME IS TORCHURE DA DON!)
What brought you to the West Coast?
Life for me became more difficult after getting married back in Jersey. I tried to settle down but the streets have always been a part of my life. It goes back to that saying, (you can take a man out of the streets, but you can never take the streets out of a man.) My marriage went sour. I was always a hard working man. It didn’t matter if it was drugs, laboring, or corporate. And after my childhood experiences, my family didn’t know how to be a family. We fought, argued, competed, and acted like we hated each other. Some other things came about that I can’t reveal right now, but I will say this, I personally felt like the black sheep of the family. I am darker than my brothers and sisters and I was always treated like I had no place. My family is a loving family and I do love them with all my heart. But, everyone wants to be better than the other. To make a long story short, my brothers betrayed me in the only way that could ever turn to blood and my family condoned it. So I turned my back on them and kept it moving. My kid’s mother whom I am with now was heading to Arizona due to her father’s medical issues so I left New Jersey and I have been here ever since. I created a place for myself in Arizona and built Inmate Records even bigger. I have a street buzz and I am affiliated with some of the greatest people I have ever met in my life. I am affiliated with notorious gang bangers and street hustlers that have seen what I am capable of doing and encouraged them to change their lives. I am loved and I show nothing but love right back. I am known by every record label and hip hop or r & B artist in Arizona because of who I am. I have an effect on peoples’ lives that has been given to me by god. I became financially rich in Arizona and lost it all due to forgetting where I came from. I have learned a valuable lesson and I am now ready to touch the world in a way that will shift humanity.
