MEZZ EXPERIMENTAL

About Me

A música Estudo Experimental n°01 - Brisas

IN ENGLISH?
The unexpected, the unusual can happen. Mixtures of "chorinho (1)with rockabilly”, “blues with bolero”, sounds of guitar being extracted of a shell, guitar simulating cuíca (2), guitar simulating berimbau (3)...
This is the proposal of the musician Xaxá Portilho (electric guitar/semi-hollowbody electric guitar ), Bernardo Rocha (semi-hollowbody electric guitar/keyboard), Luis Portilho (electric bass) and Vitor Takai (drum): take advantage of all the possible rhythms to create new “sounds” and "textures".
To define a style for the band would be something complex. More easy to say that MEZZ EXPERIMENTAL is a "factory" of rhythms and sounds (blues, bolero, chorinho, jazz, rock, rockabilly). With creativity, what it sounds like a mess transform into new execution of good taste...
Sounds of guitar being extracted of a shell?
Check the song Estudo Experimental n°01 - Brisas
In exactly 2min.:40sec. until 2min.:55sec...
The idea of this execution is create a "sensation" of a "breeze"...
(1) CHORO
Chôro (literally "cry" in Portuguese, meaning "lament"), traditionally called chorinho ("little cry" or "little lament"), is a Brazilian popular music style. Its origins are in 19th century in Rio de Janeiro
Chorinho history
Much of the success of this style of music came from the early days of radio, when bands performed live on the air. By the 1920s, it had disappeared, being displaced by Bossa Nova and other styles of Brazilian popular music. However, in the late 1970s there was a successful effort to revitalize the genre, through TV-sponsored nation-wide festivals in 1977 and 1978, which attracted a new, younger generation of musicians. Thanks in great part to these efforts, chôro music remains strong in Brazil.

(2) CUÍCA
(3) BERIMBAU
You can imagine an electric guitar simulating this instruments in a song? You can hear in "Fevereiro" and“Capoeira”.
The version of this songs available is performed by Xaxá Portilho only. Click in his name in band members to go to your solo band profile.
