About Me

Justin Raines is a music composer from Las Cruces, NM. He received his degree in Music Theory and Composition from New Mexico State University. The diversity of his musical styles has become his trademark. He has composed many works for Wind Ensemble ( ex. A Little House in Amityville, Peregrination) Choir (ex. The Raven, Fantasy on God Rest) For theater (A Walk in the Desert with the NMSU Theater, We Are Enron with the Dona Ana Lyric Opera) for film (100 MPG with the NMSU CMI Institute, and other Mark Medoff commercials and productions) and for dance (Breaking Away and Emergence from 5 Stony Pieces.) He is also a well known commissioned composer. Dr. Pancho Romero commissioned Justin for two trumpet ensemble works that were premiered at two International Trumpet Guild Conferences, one in Dallas (Some High Notes, A Few Low Notes, and One Too Many Trumpets in 2003) and the other in Denver (Trumpet Soup in 2004). Also commissioned by Dr. Romero was a new version of the "Star Spangled Banner" for 4 trumpets which was performed under the rotunda of the State Capital building in Santa Fe, NM just before Gov. Bill Richardson gave his State of the State address in 2005. He was commissioned by Dr. James Shearer to write a suite for Tuba, Horn and Piano. The piece is called "The Haunted America Suite, and it has been performed all over the country. In the spring it is on it's way to be toured through Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City. In February 2008, the world premiere or We Are Enron hit the stage to 4 sold out shows, and is making it's way to Houston, then has hopes for Broadway.. Influences: My influences range anywhere from Bach, Beethoven all the way through Eric Whitacre. I am very interested in movie scoring, so I have too many influences in that area to list. My life was dealt a terrible blow with the death of my brother, so I find much solace and peace in writing for him. He was an influence in my life that can not be replaced.
