About Me

This video is from March, 2008. (I am the girl in the red shawl.)
I edited my profile at MySpaceSupport.com , check out these Myspace Layouts !
Born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Sophia Sesha Grieb graduated, in May 2009, with her Undergraduate Degree in Voice Performance from New Mexico State University. Sophia grew up in El Paso, Texas and has wanted to be a professional singer, for as long as she can remember. Her first public performance was as Dorothy in her 1st grade class's production of the Wizard of Oz for the school talent show. Since then, Sophia has sung for various school and community events and has won many talent shows and vocal competitions, including Texas U.I.L. Solo and Ensemble, TMEA All-State Choir, and NATS.In the 6th grade, Sophia joined her first choir. She has performed in various choirs, ever since, including the New Mexico State University Choirs, TMEA All-State Choir, and the Bruce Nehring Consort. Being in choirs has taken her to Santa Fe, New Mexico to perform the Brahms Deutches Requiem with the Santa Fe Symphony, to San Antonio, Texas to perform with TMEA All-State Choirs, to New Orleans, Louisiana, and to Washington D.C. where she performed in the National Cathedral and the National Basillica. Most recently, she traveled with the NMSU Choirs to Austria, where she sang a solo in the beautiful Karlskirche in Vienna, among several other cathedrals in Austria. With choirs, she has performed other various solos including the soprano solos in Mozart's "Vesperae Solennes de Confessore", John Rutter's "Gloria", Vivaldi's "Magnificat", Beethoven's "Missa Solemnis", and Ravel's "Trois Beaux Oiseaux du Paradis."Sophia's main interest, however, is in opera. She began studying, classically, when she came to New Mexico State. Sophia has studied with three amazing voice teachers to whom she is extremely grateful: Soprano, Dr. Martha Rowe (2004-2007), Heldentenor, Andrew Zimmerman (Jan. 2007-Dec. 2008), and Mezzo-soprano, Eike Gunnarson (September 2008- Present). She has also had the opportunities to work with soprano, Tammy Jenkins, soprano, Andrea Matthews, soprano, Li "Lily" Zhang, mezzo-soprano, Kirstin Chavez, baritone, Weston Hurt, tenor, Alex Richardson, mezzo-soprano, Elena Armijo, soprano, Dr. Deanna Murray, baritone, Jeffrey Snider, and soprano, Jane Eaglen. Sophia made her operatic debut in 2002, in the chorus of Dona Ana Lyric Opera's production of "Don Giovanni". In 2004, she had her first major role with D.A.L.O. as the title role of Bastienne in Mozart's "Bastien und Bastienne." She has since had the roles of Valencienne in Lehar's "The Merry Widow" in Spring 2006 and Hansel in Humperdinck's "Hansel und Gretel" in Spring 2007. In addition to performing these full operas, she has performed scenes from Cosi fan Tutte and Die Zauberfloete as the characters Fiordigili and First Lady, respectively. She is known for her large vocal range, her lyricism, power, and coloratura alike, her ability to perform anything from lyric/dramatic coloratura and lyric pieces to spinto soprano and lyric mezzo-soprano selections, and her natural stage presence and passion. In addition to classical music, Sophia loves to sing pop, r and b, gospel, jazz, rock, broadway, and country music and can often be found at local bars partaking in karaoke or on stage with NMSU's Gospel Choir. She also enjoys playing piano, violin, and viola and composing pieces of her own, from time to time. After obtaining her Master's degree, she hopes to participate in various competitions, festivals, and training programs and, finally, begin her professional career.
