I am here for Dating, Serious Relationships, Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm pretty busy trying to live authentically, usefully, humbly and fully, more in conscious contact with the divine. This is an ongoing and enriching process which excites and infuriates me daily. I welcome and appreciate company on this journey.
Bio: Grew up on Bleecker St. — lived on the streets from 15, eventually did some stuff, like writing and editing for some magazines, helping run several national political parties, raising sheep in rural Maine, almost becoming a Benedictine monk, designing software, downtempo DJing, shooting and editing video.
Today, I write, manage web development projects, and cherish an amazing group of friends who help me enjoy life in a way I've never known before and for whom I hope I am occasionally useful.
Quote of the week: You make light from dark
Illuminate my heart
It started with a spark
And now I'm consumed
I know that it's Your will
So I'm going to shine until
I'm a city on a hill
and they can see you
And know you
And know you inside

My Interests

you, life, philfoxrose.com, conversation, religion and spirituality, figuring stuff out, realizing I can't figure stuff out, avocados, baths (but w/a 4' tub and a catbox in the room baths pretty much suck now), nature, most things really

Food should be an interest category. POOF!
Food avocados (obviously), cilantro, macaroni & cheese, pizza, general tso's chicken, saag, steak, shawarma (w/ white sauce and hot sauce), lasagna, twice-cooked pork, caesar & cobb salads, pad thai, bacon blue cheese burger, and just bacon in general. (Hard to believe I was a vegan for years!)

I'd like to meet:

I absolutely insist on enjoying life, so I'd like to meet whoever will bring me closer to truth, closer to love, closer to honesty, closer to beauty -- people who mean it when they hug. My friends help me in all these every day, and I'm always open to discovering new companions along the road. I love being with people it's easy to be with, where I can be silent or blabber and both are OK. And I love being with people who challenge me to grow.

Music:

A person who does not regard music as a marvelous creation of God does not deserve to be called a human being; he should be permitted to hear nothing but the braying of donkeys and the grunting of hogs.-Martin Luther; Rockdove, Rosy Nolan, Ursa Minor, Monteverdi, Lucinda Williams, Lamb, Mary Gauthier, Isis, Iris Dement, Bach, Stones, early ZZ Top and Skynyrd, Radiohead, Portishead, Moloko, Handel, Massive Attack, Allman Brothers, Jenny Lewis, Stephan Grapelli, Madonna, Doris Day, Peggy Lee, Esthero, Lisa Gerrard

Movies:

Magnolia, Mermaids, action movies with male leads I can admire or enjoy (i.e., Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, Chow Yun-Fat, Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Nicolas Cage, but never EVER Ben Affleck or Mel Gibson); classic romantic comedies, esp. those with Rock Hudson, Doris Day, Tony Randall, Katharine Hepburn and/or Marilyn Monroe (Man's Favorite Sport, Pillow Talk, Lover Come Back, Send Me No Flowers, Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?, The Mating Game, Holiday, Desk Set, Bringing Up Baby, Let's Make Love, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes); quirky stylized films like Moulin Rouge, Amelie, Chocolat, Queen Margot, Raise the Red Lantern, Orlando, Betty Blue, Heroic Trio, Ghost World, Doom Generation; most things produced or directed by Luc Besson (Nikita, The Professional, 5th Element), Jerry Bruckheimer (from Cat People to Pirates of the Caribbean) or Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma and Louise, Gladiator)
