Akaname blend serrated strings, precision percussion and thundering bottom-end to create angular rhythms, controlled chaos and labyrinthine atmospheres. The New Zealand based instrumental metal/dirge/grindcore quintet compose their sound from a diverse musical palette that blends a myriad of genres into a multi-layered sonic barrage.
Akaname originally formed in Wellington, New Zealand in 2005 and were fronted by the gutteral throat blasts of Ms Kallie Sparkles up until her departure in late 2007 (shortly after the recording of the Filthlicker EP). Following on from
the debut release Akaname decided to remain instrumental, with newer
material bearing more variance and layered arrangement - the band opting away from the need for a singer/cult of personality to concentrate on developing their music into instrumentally articulated stories.
Akaname will soon be based in Melbourne, Australia and a full length
"album" is currently being arranged with a late 2008 release target.
